Tulsi Gabbard Pulls Back the Curtain On Why Congress Won't Act Against Big Tech

Conservatives have been calling for a reform of tech company power for some time, including the reformation of Section 230. Moreover, politicians talk a big game about coming down on these tech companies but never really seem to move on their threats or declarations.

Ever wonder why? Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard will tell you.

The clip picks up with Gabbard explaining that Google does indeed pick and choose what search results come up at the top of every search and she experienced that herself during her campaign for President. She then transitioned that to section 230.

“What this comes down to is, section 230 gives them this legal immunity because the idea is that they are just this neutral platform, kind of like a town square,” said Gabbard.

“This is distinct and different from somebody like the New York Times, for example, or any major media platform that does not have legal immunity because they are publishers, and they do pick and choose what news stories they publish, what letters do the editor’s ar printed, what kind of op-eds are put on their platform, and they make those decisions knowing they are legally liable.”

Gabbard noted that these platforms are now acting as publishers as they are now making editorial decisions while maintaining a legal immunity under section 230.

Gabbard then discussed her recent legislation that would reform section 230, which would remove the broad protections provided by the law and make things a bit more precise in what Silicon Valley giants can get away with.

It seems like a pretty obvious move so why hasn’t it been done yet? Gabbard lets us in on a little Capitol Hill secret.

“The real question we should all be asking is ‘why hasn’t it been fixed yet?'” said Gabbard.

Gabbard notes that despite all the committee hearings and big talk, nothing has been done. So why?

“It goes to money,” said Gabbard.

“I’ve seen it happen,” she continued. “Google will have a big reception and members of congress will go and pick up their checks. Facebook will have a big reception and they’ll go and ‘hey, where’s my check?'”

Of course. I don't think white straight males should get canceled either.

People who are hateful (like the hypothetical guy saying something terrible about God/religious types) or associate themselves with hateful people are fair game. It's a societal check on bad behavior.
Hm. So you are exactly who you claim to condemn. Interesting. Fine for being cancelled for this but not that. Society rejected homosexuality and cancelled based on that criteria. Now you condone that same society cancelling based on what society chooses to reject. You are the same person that cancelled the gay guy for being gay.

Classic.

I mean did you not see the video where George Floyd was choked to death by police officers in broad daylight? Are you OK with that? Can you understand why people would be angry about that?
And why aren't they angry about the 21 (so far) black homicides in Chicago alone... mostly perpetrated by other blacks?

**** George Floyd.

How to easily transfer your photos and videos off of Facebook

Thinking about breaking up with Facebook? Well, you have plenty of reasons to do so.

The social media site has been plagued with security issues for years, and the massive 2018 hack that affected over 50 million users is just one example. Similar privacy issues continue to this day, so it makes sense to stop using the platform. Even Kim took down her personal Facebook account a while back — tap or click here to see why.

I'm glad it's still in business. We used to fly into Evansville on a plane that I called the cigar, a turbo prop, single seats on each side for about 5 or 6 rows with 3 across the back, had to do the duck crawl to walk down the isle. Followed that ride with a 2 hour car trip to Troy, fun times.
I'll bet it was a Metroliner. Some called it the San Antonio Sewer Pipe. I only rode on one once... ugh.

I used to fly from Nashville to Raleigh and back every week on a Saab turbo prop. I liked it, only 15-20 people on the plane at a time.

I think it's wrong to cancel people because of their religion, sexuality, race, heritage, party affiliation, etc. I think canceling people because of hatefulness is acceptable. Please tell me you can see the difference.

Let’s see now. She’s a slut but small hands Donnie has a long history of philandering and that’s OK? Married 3 times and was messing with a porn star while wife was pregnant and then paid the porn star to keep quiet. Yeah, he’s the epitome of character and morality and deserves all sorts of “respect”. Besides, if some of you goofs could have slept your way to the “top”, I have no doubt that you would have. Whatever the “top” of your line of work is. Spare us the sermon on that subject. Nobody cares but those who have an axe to grind.
But Trump!!!

Nope. It's different. It's called a double standard. You leftist toads should easily accept that and understand it by now as you have employed it for as long as I can remember. But this isn't about Trump. This is about a female who has never denied an affair with a married man to get to a higher position. Newsflash: The majority of the world is run by men, and sitting across any table from a known slut doesn't garner respect. She will get zero respect from the Arabs.

Let me ask you something - what is your beef really?

I mean did you not see the video where George Floyd was choked to death by police officers in broad daylight? Are you OK with that? Can you understand why people would be angry about that?

And why is it that you're so upset that Parler is going bye bye? Do you truly believe that Donald Trump had this election stolen from him? Because if you believe that I can't help you dude.

I’m going to question if you watched the video. I saw a man who was unbelievably high. His own peers (the people in the car with him) were making signs (finger circling the ear) to tell the police he had a few screws loose.

I then watched the police try over and over again to get the man into the police car. He refused multiple times saying he was claustrophobic (despite having been in a smaller car previously).

I agree the knee on the neck wasn’t necessary. But I think you’re misrepresenting what happened. Choked to death in broad daylight is not what happened.

Who is the arbiter of "hatefulness"? The same society that decided being gay was bad? A handful of nerds that run the main tech companies? You're what you hate and it's hilarious and sad at the same time.

Oh, so now it matters what Europe thinks of America, eh? Where was this the last four years?
I still don't GAS what Europe thinks of us. As long as they respect us, they can hate us all they want. And there is a difference between fear and respect. They won't respect us with HoJo at the helm. They will be laughing once again behind our backs.

It's in the eye of the beholder. Stop searching high and low for an area where we disagree. Turns out my position is pretty reasonable so now you're scrambling for something else to argue about. I'll take this as a concession that canceling people for hatefulness is different than canceling them for sexuality, despite the stupid cheap shot at the end. Thanks.

More importantly, was there any evidence that his death was race related? Like at all? If we're protesting police killing unarmed criminals, why no outrage for Ashli Babbitt?

Starting with Michael Brown, the Obama administration created this deep racial divide and law enforcement distrust by making every black person a victim of racial injustice. Sometimes criminals deserved to be shot, armed or not. Sometimes there are bad cops or cops with inexcusable actions that don't happen to be racist. Yes, sometimes there is racism, but not everything is about race. Or at least it didn't use to be. Now, every black death by law enforcement is an unjustified, racial murder. Riot Protest now, ask questions later. White deaths by law enforcement, *crickets*.
I guess the autopsy can determine racist inklings of the killer. According to Monty anyway.

White straight males are canceled? I'm still employed. People everywhere are still nice and polite to me. I'm not banned from FB. What are you talking about?

It used to be that you had to have a white, male protestant as a VP. At least he didn't have to have a black female as a running mate. #progress
Why the #progress tag?

See, you're just not understanding that your championing of cancel culture is going to place you in the same category as the prior ones in due time. Its funny and sad at the same time. The short sightedness is the funny part.
