There is no data point to move a non-playing team this weekend according to Michigan AD. We appear to be stuck at 8.
I think that means data points for Bama, USC and Miami. There has to be movement based on championships, for instance, PSU and Oregon can’t both be top 4 - someone has to move.
It won’t matter, they already have their built in clause that they’ve been floating all season. Georgia and Penn State could lose by 4 TD’s and they will use the “will not penalize for losing the CCG” narrative.
Tennessee will have to win on the road to advance, plain and simple.
I don’t think a team like ND gets penalized for not playing in a championship either. If Clemson and Oregon win, I don’t see ND getting pushed back 2 spots to 7.
I think it should shake out this way:
No, 1. Oregon. 2.UGA. 3.SMU/Boise 4.Boise/Clemson. All conf. champs.
5. ND. 6.Tx 7. OSU.(if Head to Head over PSU Carrie’s any weight anymore.) 8. PSU. 9. TN. 10. IU 11. SMU/Bama 12. Az St (champion)
I’d like this. Going to PSU for our first playoff game seems retro cool to me. (Wasn’t the first Neyland night game vs PSU?)
Committee probably doesn’t want Conference cannibals or rematches in 1st round, so likely alternative, and where I think we end up, consistent with “not punishing” teams, is this:
5.ND hosts 12. ASU
6. PSU hosting 11 SMU/BAMA(!!!!!),
7. Tx at #7, hosting 10. IU, and
8. OSU hosting 9. UT.
