The Bracket

Doubtful, I think they want Bama in regardless of what happens.

The playoff bracket is locked no matter what happens

You have the top 25 and then you have the bracket and for the most part the bracket is based off of the top 25. SMU is ranked ahead of bama in both right now. He said a team that isn’t playing can’t move up and teams wouldn’t be punished for title games. There would be outrage beyond comprehension if smu lost and they somehow put them behind bama.

They’d just drop SmU and replace with Clemson.
and Bama still gets in

SMU wouldn’t be penalized persay. Them losing to Clemson means Clemson HAS to leap them as a conference champ. They should still be in the playoff but they can’t be ranked over their conference champ. That’s not penalizing them for losing. It’s accommodating Clemson into the field per the rules

Right. If you’re already in the top 12 playing for a conference championship then you won’t be bumped out if you lose. I don’t think that means it can’t affect your seeding though.

It’s not what he said. The conference championships can definitely shake things up. He meant teams like Ole Miss, USCjr, and Miami had no way of passing bama ahead of them since none of them were playing. Basically those guys are eliminated and there is a possibility bama could be as well after Saturday.

I will admit I did not watch and see the context of the question. This is very different than what others are saying. This implies that those teams within the top 12 who are not bumped due to upsets that move teams outside of the 12 into the mix can actually move around. And that the only teams that are not currently in the top 12 that could move into the top 12 are:

- UNLV
- Clemson
- Arizona State
- Iowa State

Those teams would take the place of someone currently in the top 12.

Additionally, because the final location of the BIG 10 and SEC champion will determine seed 1 verses seed 2 and re-location impacts who plays whom, they will need to adjust based on those if upsets happen. And they really can't justify keeping a team in the same spot if said team was embarrassed in the championship game.

Imo if it were ANY other team other than bama, I'd agree that smu wouldn't drop with a loss.

But because it's bama, would you really be surprised?

I don't get all the angst. I believe we should be hosting. But, based on the way tOSU played this week and have not impressed all season - why can't we just go to Columbus and beat the shat out of em?! No team could make a bigger statement about conference superiority than our Vols. GBO.
If we play in Neyland, I have no doubt we win. Honestly though, I’m not so sure about us beating OSU in the shoe. Are we better, absolutely, but I’m not feeling us playing there.
