The Bruce Pearl Rally (merged)

I agree with all of that. However, I also agree with LawVol that your Facebook pages are going to be absolutely meaningless because the big money donors that are going to make the calls on both Pearl and Hamilton couldn't care less about Facebook.

That's what the leaders said in Egypt as well. :salute: Just kidding...

You can't simply say that social media has no relevance and that everyone who uses it are moron trash as indiciated by lawvol. That was the crux of our disagreement.

I could be wrong here (and I'm not about to dig back through that thread for this post), but I believe that the comment about "moron trash" was specifically directed at the people (and their posts) on that Fire Mike Hamilton Facebook page and not about Facebook users in general. While I haven't visited that page, from what I have gathered by reading other posters' comments about it, those aren't the most well educated people you will encounter in life. I believe that is why he made the "moron trash" statement.

Almost every school in the SEC charges students for tickets. That's also the norm across most power programs. UT students were too spoiled by free tickets to realize that was the exception, not the rule.

I hear ya. So?

...and as soon as these Facebook posters are willing to camp out in the middle of the campus for two weeks, dodge live bullets, endure brutal beatings and face a real chance of death in order to fire Mike Hamilton or keep Bruce Pearl, then we can talk.

What happened in Egypt had a lot more to do with decades of crushing oppression than a Facebook page. Facebook (along with Twitter and other sites) was the method of communication. The overwhelming desire to end decades of oppression is what lead to the change. I guess that little detail escaped you.

the thread is gone and it really doesn't matter at this point. I haven't seen the Rally for Pearl facebook site that people here are referencing is bad, so i can't comment on the quality of those posters. The one i was referencing is "Bruce Pearl' and has 10,000 members. Hard to say 10,000 TN Pearl fans are trash. The argument was more against facebook in general. 500,000,000 users worldwide and valued at 500 billion dollars.... I'd say facebook is doing something right, but then again, I'm biased. I study this for a living.

Well I was hoping that we had some Muslim fans that might just do that... Did you see the Just kidding part?

That is your opinion of how they felt. They had to jump through a ridiculous set of hoops to even obtain the tickets and sit with their friends. So much so, that Hammy changed the delivery system the next year.

Im impressed... I actually agree with you.

Although, some could argue that we are suffering through oppression with Mike Hamilton at the helm.

I'm glad this facebook group is getting under peoples skin. So funny...

No, what's funny is anyone thinking this actually has a chance to save Pearl's job. If you aren't donating millions of dollars to the program, the administration couldn't give two Fs less what you think of their decisions. If the big money wants Pearl out, he's out. Period.

I saw the quote when it was posted, and I'm pretty confident in saying that you read it in the wrong context. It was about the posters on that specific page, not about Facebook users in general.

Then why bother responding at all. At least THEY WANT IT.

Thanks. At least we can part on good terms tonight. My only issue is that a lot of young people (and I realize that is a generalization, but in reality it IS mostly young people) now want to act like Facebook can move mountains and change everything. In reality, no it can't. People that are willing to die for their beliefs can move mountains and change things. However, most people aren't willing to die for the overwhelming majority of their beliefs. Facebook is nothing more than a means to communicate and organize. There is no power in that unless people are willing to go to the mat for their beliefs. As Libya is showing, even then you don't always get the best outcomes.

Do they want it enough to cut off the sleeves of a polo short and gaze pensively into the Tennessee River?

apparently they will make signs and shout, which is way more cool and at least will cause a ruckus.

Talked to a senior, soph, and a certain freshman and its confirmed. Guys come out and support Pearl!

What is your intended goal? To get UT to keep Pearl until they hand out sanctions and we are forced to remove him?

Its sucks it has come to this, but Pearl has no one to blame, he forced UTs hand. We have to move now for two reasons IMO: 1) Preempt NCAA ruling, and 2) Get a jump on the coaching search.

This is my question as well.

Why can't we just let the administration know that we want them to make a decision based on what kind of penalties are expected? Because that would make sense?

he's done too much damage to allow him to stay. he will be suspended for at least one year. we are ut, we can get any coach we want. let him go. if he stays we will never get through all the mess that lies ahead.

I personally think the 30-point blowout was a fitting send-off for someone like him, but if students really love the guy, good for them.
