The Bruce Pearl Rally (merged)

Lol. Yeah I just went back through the thread and saw.

I'm glad we have fans who are passionate enough about the program to get out on a Sunday and show support for a basketball coach (regardless of my feelings on Pearl).

So what if they misspelled a word? The kids probably made the sign. I'm fairly certain we've all made typos before.

They're not passionate about the program. They're passionate about the coach. That's the problem I have.

On another note, I don't understand or agree with the bashing of these folks who are at the "rally." Is this the kind of fan base we've become? Making fun of our own fans and their children? Showing support is one thing, but showing up on campus on a Sunday to show support for a man who lied to the NCAA and got beat by 30 points on Friday is just retarded. Go home and worry about things that you can control, because no one is listening to those people, period.

I agree that this issue is moot. When I heard that BP had lied to NCAA, I pretty much believed that he was history. You can't overcome that. And I really liked BP and what he has done for BB and UT. I still am not going to bash him though.

Fine, don't bash him, but why defend him? I liked Pearl and what he did for UT basketball as well, but all that was lost when he lied over a stupid secondary violation. He betrayed the trust of his players, the university, and the fanbase over a cookout. A freakin' cookout. I'm sorry, I don't buy the "he's only human" or the "everyone lies" arguement. If put in that situation myself, I see no way I would risk committing a major violation when all I was facing was a secondary violation. I'm no saint, but I learned as a child, when caught, better to just fess up.

Your sentiment seems to be shared by a whole load of people.

Exactly. He knows what kind of scrutiny he's under as a coach, and that doing something as flagrant as he did was just dumb. Our fanbase wants a winner, that's cool, we just need someone who can play the gray area without running out into the black area for so long they leave tracks.

You know, I can't speak for all of them, because I am sure there are some intelligent folks in their ranks but...

there will NOT be a 2 year ban! Like others said, if they do that to Pearl, they have to do it to others... even Tressel. Tressel sat on info that made his two star players ineligible. Pearl lied about visiting with junior recruits. I'd say knowingly playing ineligible players and hiding that info is much worse... plus I want OSU to get looked into more. I guarantee you that their AD and President knew about that sheyit and decided to let them play and hide the info! It'll get much worse for them, and our situation is nothing in comparison.

Also, let Dane BRadshaw come in and coach for a year or two. Hell, it'd be fun and interesting and the players would love him. If Jim Bob can coach our JV football team and win, I'd say Dane could fill in for Pearl for a year or two and do respectable.

really ChattVol06?

Oh Lord, someone from my hometown posted that? I better get the Hell out of Chattanooga immediately. That kind of stupidity could be contagious.

This whole thing could be hours of entertainment.

The fact that the parents are supportive of a man who asked a recruit and his dad to lie for him bothers me. As for the kids, I pray they never find this site, and hope no one they know finds this site as well. They don't deserve the ridicule they would receive. I honestly feel for them.

Do you know those pictured in the photo? I'm not being sarcastic...seriously, do you know them and their thoughts on the University/coach?

It's one thing to discuss that issue with people on the board b/c I agree with you in that there are some people here who care more about the coach than the program. I just don't think we can make that assumption for everyone.

I know it's hard for many of us to comprehend that there are some out there who truly care about the program and still want Pearl to stay as coach. The fact is, whatever their reasons, they're still Vol fans and I will treat their opinion with respect, even if I disagree.

Now more than ever, we need to unite as fans...because we're going to be in for a rough couple of years regardless of what happens.

I'm just being defensive because I think at 22 page thread over a student rally (that's not even going anywhere) is a little silly. It's easy to see who you have identified as me, and I promise you, it's not my facebook. For her sake, please do not confuse. :)

You were the one who spammed the board with links to that group when it had 2 members.

Yeah. It's messed up.
