I have never heard of anyone interpret being called a "redneck" as a racial epithet. You are being ridiculous in comparing the two.

For such an informal term, you will find many different definitions of it's usage .... it is not a racial epithet, in the same vein as the N word. It's a silly comparison. It is much more of a component of culturally unrefined or unsophisticated behavior and/or tastes. The people I call rednecks wear the term like a badge of honor. The people most commonly referred to as being a redneck will be white .... but not exclusively so. A person isn't a redneck just because they are white. This is such a stupid discussion, which would only be had here.

No, I'm saying that definition does not describe it as being a race-based epithet ... such as the N word. A person will not be called a redneck simply for being white. The connotation will imply simple tastes and social awkwardness.
