Also, this unilateral change that Trump has made by way of an executive order does not apply internationally. It only applies to how the United States federal government recognizes it.

My criticism of this, is with Trump. I also think it was wrong to rename Denali as "Mt. McKinley."

"Denali" is what the indigenous people of Alaska have been calling that mountain long before Alaska became a state. Re-naming it, after an American President, who wasn't even from there, was disrespectful to those indigenous people.

Trump only did it, because it was Barack Obama who had signed the executive order, which changed it's federally recognized name to Denali. However, Obama only did so at the urging of the 2 Alaskan Senators at the time, who were both Republicans. Trump is a petty little man.

Your correct it was most commonly known as the Gulf of Mexico, but it has been known by as many as 10 different names on maps...and prior to 1550 it was known as the gilf of new spain and the great North sea...so name changes happen..funny thing is I agree it's a waste of time..he signed the order..it's done of people don't like it move on..that thier choice, but you lose a lot of your arguments when you resort to childish name calling..
