The cancel culture is getting out of control

I love how Republicans were all "we need government out of private business transactions" and "businesses should be able to decide who they do business with" (remember the baker who didn't want to bake a cake for a gay wedding?) a few years ago, and now they're all like "we need more regulation!"
So, are you supporting what Loews Hotel did?

Given that political ideology is not a protected class under federal law, and it was a private business transaction, there was nothing unconstitutional in what they did (there was perhaps a breach of contract, but I'd have to see the contract Hawley signed with them)

Good answer. Now do you think political ideology should be a protected class under federal law?

Nope, because we generally protect only characteristics that are beyond our control (age, race, national origin, etc). political ideology is voluntary.

What is the contradictory opinion taken?

That government should not compel businesses to do business with people they object to doing business with (the gay wedding cake controversy) and the government should not allow businesses to avoid doing business with people they object to (the Hawley book deal, Trump getting booted from Twitter, the Hawley Florida fundraiser cancellation).

Yep. Totalitarianism. Only one viewpoint is allowed. Agree with them or be silenced
You know what else I love about this. It's exploding the myth of the self-made man who does it all by himself and is therefore entitled to all the vast wealth created by his brilliance and drive. You can see now how much these businesses are interlinked and dependent on each other.

I disagree. Political ideology is based on belief and principal, not like you are volunteering for the local bake sale. You should not be discriminated against because of political beliefs. That completely goes against being able to maintain a democracy and stop one party rule like you see in a few socialist countries today. A good example would be the communications industry. The first rule of overthrowing a government or controlling the population is to control communications. Todays media for the most part is left of center and they are controlling the narrative. I know that Trump was a very divisive president but if the media continues down the left of center (when they should be neutral) we as a country will be on very dangerous ground.

I see CNN's viewership dependency on airport screens getting crippled by wi-fi.

So if you're a hotel owner and the Nazi party wants to hold their annual holocaust denial convention at your hotel, you have to accept their business?

The short answer is yes, as long as they are following the law and not being disruptive to your business. By the way , using an extreme example is a sign of a weak argument.

No, it's how you test the strength of your theory. If your theory is correct, it should be able to accommodate all instances falling under the rule. If it can't, that means the rule you proposed needs to be revised.

The bakers would not do any business with the gay couple?
