The coaching situation at TAMU

After a few quick visits/emails:

Fedora
Sumlin
Smart.

Most likely in that order. Retention of Tim D as DC.

Figure is around 1.8 for a 4 year term. Sumlin is indifferent due to the $ ASU is throwing.

Fedora? I have no one connected there.

I'm so glad Hamilton gave Dooley a $4-5 million buyout to protect us from having our coach being courted away by another school.

Mike apparently showed no interest in hiring an OC. May have been the final straw for him. Candidates are still the same, but I'd expect Fedora at this juncture.

I don't think Sumlin or Strong are real options that will be considered by the University. At Least, the BMA have led me to believe that.

Announcement as early as this weekend though. The BOR has contacted the next guy already. That has at least been confirmed to me. President Loftin is to return to College Station today.

That's all I got so far from the last 3 hours. Happy Friday morning to you.

Liucci is banging the pot for Sumlin. He dropped the ball on this deal earlier though. He's non-committal thus far. Just talking. For those of you that follow us through him.

Lots of negative reaction from the players on Twitter. I'd imagine that gets shut down promptly. They've been at it all night.

Press conference scheduled for 3 pm local time today. Sherman to speak. Not sure Ive ever seen a "farewell address" from a coach.

When you look at that, it seems like they've made slow and steady improvement over a four-year stretch to take USM from a mid-level C-USA team to the Top 25. Considering they easily could've been 12-0 this year (two losses by nine points combined), Fedora's done a fairly impressive job there.

Also: if it's going to take $4M/yr to get Sumlin as ASU thinks, A&M should let them have him. Neither one of these two are worth that much.

If ASU is legit in throwing $4mil at Sumlin, he should be at the Hobby Airport already with bags packed.

Fedora, as I've said previously, has a much cheaper price tag. If it was a matter of deciding between him and Smart, and you could get either of them for less than 2 mil, I'd take Smart.

Sherman: Got a cell call from AD Bill Byrne as he neared driveway of recruit. Said family found out before he did. "We're better than that."

Not a big fan of firing a coach like this.

Not a big fan of firing a coach like this.

I can't imagine walking into a living room of a recruit and before I can even make my pitch, he says to me, "But the news said you were fired". I'd be pissed off beyond belief.

I've been informed that Sumlin has agreed to accept the job.

No word on press conference yet. I wouldn't expect one this weekend.

Loftin released a statement that Byrne will be involved in the hiring process. Looks like a public vote of confidence in his AD. They're in New York.

I'm not sure if they've talked to Fedora yet. Sumlin losing didnt look good, but like I said last week, he agreed he'd take it.

Fedora might have jumped him if he's interested.

It looks like they are rounding up 2-3 guys and then picking from those that are willing. One down thus far. 2 to go.

I read some of that too. My initial reaction was, "This isn't high school. Tell your mom and pop to get over it."

Sounds like a lot of "candidates" are shopping for raises at their current schools. Ton of speculation as to be expected.

The circus continues.
