If Pearl is fired before the sanctions are announced, how is it expected to affect the sanctions that UT basketball receives? I would think they would be less severe, but people seem to think the sanctions will be similar either way. Anyone able to elaborate?
Also, please don't respond and say, "Bruce Pearl is the best thing to ever happen to UT basketball and firing him would send us back to irrelevancy." Not only would that be not true, it doesn't have anything to do with the thread.[/
the only thing qrong with that therory is that mike hamilton has already gone pulic and said that pearl is our coach and wikk be our coah for years to come that faith may give ncaa more reason for lashing out harser punishment
He doesn't have a contract. I'm confused to why everyone is sure he's coming back.the only thing qrong with that therory is that mike hamilton has already gone pulic and said that pearl is our coach and wikk be our coah for years to come that faith may give ncaa more reason for lashing out harser punishment
I don't agree with that. I think football is much less likely to get hit hard than basketball. Our athletic department is under investigation by the NCAA. The investigation includes football, basketball, and baseball. The most egregious sport which initiated the investigation is football. To tvols point, if the penalty is influenced by the retention of the criminal, then the penalties should be reduced because of the new football staff.
The Pearl incident is related directly to Pearl lying for which the AD and conference swiftly punished him for. It looks fairly straightforward that the NCAA will penalize our athletic department in some minor form. I suspect the basketball team will suffer no direct problems, but the unknown is the penalty that the NCAA will enforce on Pearl for lying.
Thanks to Tark the NCAA can't fire Pearl, but they can sure make his life miserable and essentially force UT to fire him to keep the misery out of our program.
The list of problems will be much longer and severe for the football team of the three sports. Why would they get a pass on the punishment?

I think Phil Jackson would come take the job, and all the top recruits in the country would immediately come pay for him. Also, Jared Sullinger would probably transfer here to play for him. After 6 pages of responses I think its ok if I go off topic now. I'm curious as to what you think would happen to the program if he got fired and who we could realistically get to replace him.
Buzz Peterson. Isn't it obvious that those of us who think Pearl deserves to go want Buzzball back? After 6 pages of responses I think its ok if I go off topic now. I'm curious as to what you think would happen to the program if he got fired and who we could realistically get to replace him.
