Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

The firing of Bruce Pearl will hurt our program more than NCAA sanctions. Burce Pearl has completely transformed a dead program into a program that is a perennial tournament team. I just think some of you don't understand how bad it was before Pearl. Tennessee didn't go to the tournament every year. We struggled to make the NIT many years. I do not want to go back to those days. Especially over a damn barbeque.

So many things wrong with this, not sure where to start.

Would they punish UT for waiting so long to make a decision?

I wouldn't think so. I would think UT could say we waited to see what the official findings were, and we decided that this level of conduct is not sufficient to maintain employment at the University of Tennessee and have decided to take corrective action.

I understand how bad it was. What you don't seem to understand is that if he is fired, it has nothing to do with a barbeque. It may have to do with intentionally lying to NCAA and intentionally trying to get others, such as recruits' families, to lie for him.

How many times does this have to be rehashed on here? We made the tourney '97-'00 and won two east titles during that span.

Firing mike hamilton would probably please the ncaa more than getting rid of pearl

I agree. :good!:

I'm a Pearl fan! Love the enthusiasm he brought back to the program! Loved watching him raise five fingers for the full court press. (btw, where has that gone?)

I will admit though, this program WILL survive and can even be successful without Bruce. I sure would miss his enthusiasm, but I'm satisfied with what he has done. Just wish this letter would come out and the sanctions passed down so we all can FINALLY move on!

And a Sweet 16. I assume he was referring to Buzzball, but anyone who keeps saying this is about a bbq doesn't do enough research to know the stats you mentioned. How many times does it have to be rehashed that this isn't about a BBQ?

The Pearlophiles like to pretend that he didn't conspire with lots of people to lie to the NCAA.

Yea, keeping the guy that engaged in a wide ranging conspiracy to lie would really help things.

Keeping the guy that hired him and lane kiffin and is supposed to be in charge of the athletic program is even better.

Bruce Pearl is the best thing to ever happen to UT basketball and firing him would send us back to irrelevancy.

You can't tell me what not to post. :)

IMO, if the ncaa sanctions are bad, then both hamilton and pearl should go

There is absolutely no doubt that the sanctions would be less if Pearl is gone. It sends a strong message that the University is not going to condone such unethical behavior in it's sports programs.

They're joined at the hip. You can bet they'll both be out of here if it's bad. Keeping Pearl around until hammer meets nail makes a lot of sense, not.

Then UT should have made that "ethical" decision when all of this started!

If we get hit with sanctions, what good coach is going to want to come in under those kind of restrictions?

I'm not sure. That's why we have to fire Pearl earlier, so the sanctions are less and we have more time to look for a new coach.

The timing of the NCAA issue kept them from taking that action. We were ready for basketball season to start. No way, a decent coach could have been hired to replace him at that time. Waiting for the letter of allegations, and terminating his contract at the time was the right move for the university under the circumstances. This gives them time to start thinking about the next coaching hire and to start making feelers as to who is interested. The time for action is when the letter is received with the formal allegations.

If I was making the decisions, when we actually receive the letter, I'd give Pearl an ultimatum of going ahead and announcing his resignation at the end of the season or we'd announce that he won't be retained.

Yes, if we know that we can stave off damaging sanctions by firing him. That's definitely the real question - I don't know the answer. For instance, the punishment Calhoun is getting handed is not really that damaging. Granted, they've already taken a scholarship reduction, at least they didn't get hit with a post-season ban. If that's something we're faced with, I don't think Pearl is in trouble. However, UConn did scapegoat some assistants - which is definitely not happening in our case.
