Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

You'll probably hear about it right after the season finishes. They're stalling right now. I'd say they already know what's coming.

How many times does this have to be rehashed on here? We made the tourney '97-'00 and won two east titles during that span.

I have a memory before 1997 and we sucked for long time before that. Pearl has matched our longest streak of going to the tournament and may or may not break it this year but we have been playing basketball for a while and the ONLY person to get us to an elite eight was Bruce Pearl. So I have a hard time by just throwing him under the bus as so many of you are easily doing. I think we take our medicine and move on. And he lied about a damn barbeque, so he told a player to lie about eating a cheeseburger.... BIG FLIPPIN DEAL

I think Hamilton should have already been fired but that has to do more with kiffin and when pearl goes then he should go the same day . I would think how long this is going to drag out because another year of going through this it will kill recruting for 2 or 3 years ..

We didn't throw him under the bus, he did that all by himself.

I don't think it will be a LOIC. Sounds a bit too severe for what are essentially a set of poorly handled minor violations.

I agree with your characterization but the NCAA can be very capricious in levying punishment. After Jim Wacker, then football coach at TCU, learned that several of his players had been receiving large sums of cash and other financial incentives, he immediately dismissed them, including All-American running back Kenneth Davis, from the program and self-reported to the NCAA. What was the NCAA response?

"In 1986, the NCAA placed TCU on three year probation.[20] They found that 6 boosters provided football recruits and football players with cash and other forms of payment. The final penalty of the NCAA was to ban TCU from post-season play for one season, a forfeiture of TV revenue for the 1983 and 1984 seasons, only 10 scholarships for the 1987-88 academic year and only 15 scholarships for the 1988-89 season. The NCAA said it would have given TCU a harsher penalty: a three-year ban from postseason play, a three-year television appearance ban and no new scholarships for two years.[20] In the NCAA's public release they imposed a reduced penalty because TCU self-reported the violations, suspended the players in question, full cooperation with the enforcement committee and a lack of previous infractions" (TCU Horned Frogs football - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

If that qualifies as mercy, I would hate to see a harsh penalty imposed by the NCAA. On the other hand, what Pearl did originally is miniscule by comparison to the example cited above. He seriously compounded the problem by lying to the NCAA about the matter.

That's different. That involves boosters paying players, which are major violations, and it's not necessarily an issue about whether the coach knows. Our situation involves coaches hiding minor violations in both sports.

I'd say that's a very good thing in comparison.

One means a slap on the wrist and the other means you're screwed.

I know pearl lied ,but the ncaa is over reacting along with many people on this site who act like there were strippers and blow at the BBQ. Ncaa is just trying to flex their muscles because they can and nobody is perfect. Pearl made a mistake by lying, but he should be allowed to keep his job and only serve a 10 game suspension at worst by ncaa next year IMO.

Unless there is a multi year probation post-season ban handed down, Pearl is not going to be let go. We clearly decided to back him by not letting him go earlier, so you can bank on us riding this out unless the punishment is severe.

I did read the first post, and I will say this, Pearl is not the only thing that has happened to UT basketball, but he definitely has elevated the team far beyond where is has been in the past. I don't think his teams are the most talented, but prior to this year, he got a ton out of his players through hustle and grit. It is not working out that way this year.

I would rather Pearl stay on and try and redeem himself than let him go, and let knucklehead go out and try to hire another basketball coach. At the very least Hamilton needs to go before we are out trying to hire anyone else.

Wrong

He hasn't gotten a lot out of his talented players.

Exactly. That explains why we terminated his contract and why he still doesn't have one.

Bruce Pearl is the best thing to ever happen to UT basketball and firing him would send us back to irrelevancy. (Okay...gonna sue for plagiarism?)

The firing of Bruce Pearl will hurt our program more than NCAA sanctions. Burce Pearl has completely transformed a dead program into a program that is a perennial tournament team. I just think some of you don't understand how bad it was before Pearl. Tennessee didn't go to the tournament every year. We struggled to make the NIT many years. I do not want to go back to those days. Especially over a damn barbeque.

Way to pay attention, Einstein.

I agree; there is a quantum-level difference in the severity of the actual infractions perpetrated but I use this example to indicate that the NCAA employs a very uneven hand of justice, sometimes to the extent that there is little incentive, let alone reward, to play by the rules.

Great comeback. Now tell us how no one's ever gone to the NCAA tournament before at Tennessee again and display your knowledge.

Do some research and show me where I said that. 8 ncaa tourney wins in UT's bball history prior to BP. 8 wins in his years at UT. Just stating facts. Differing opinions are one thing. The above stat is enough for me, right now.

Would Peyton be proud of your attitude?
