The Cuonzo Apologists are Awfully Quiet Tonight

Actually I did I gave you what you asked for. If your so smart about how hard Xavier is to beat at home then please explain why Pacific, Wofford, Vanderbilt and 4 other average teams were able to beat them at home last year.

Did we play great tonight and just lose to a better team or was I watching the wrong game?

No you didn't, you picked out last year only because it helped your point; all time at that arena they are 174-25.

Maybe however with our schedule we do not have the luxury of sleepwalking until January like we have done every year under CCM. Tonight was very dissapointing.

The SEC is going to be terrible again this year so we should get ten to twelve wins for playing in a really bad conference.

The SEC won't be bad. South Carolina is better then expected, LSU's decent, Mizzou should be okay, Ole Miss will be okay, Kentucky/Florida and us should all be good teams. Really isn't that bad, I think you're just exaggerating

I take it you haven't watched the SEC for the last two years.

Martin would be a much better coach than pearl in March.

You're out of your ****ing mind.

Since his track record in the NIT is so good?

Coach Martin needs to get his head out of his ass and tell this team "brick by brick" is for football only.

This can be a damn good team if they bring it together, and it should start with the head coach.

this is the same exact team from last year-- we don't have a single kid on the roster that can actually shoot the ball consistently. We are not going to win games waiting until the second half to "warm up".

Really? McRae, Barton, & Richardson were a combined 8-15 from the 3-point line (53%), and 16-31 overall (52%). And that's our perimeter players. Stokes and Maymon were uncharacteristically inefficient shooting in the paint (5-14 combined, 36%). That shouldn't happen often. For the game, we shot 42% from the field (and 42% from three). That should be good enough to win with even pedestrian defense. Unfortunately, we shot 37% from the foul line and were outrebounded 40-34.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your baseless rant. We lost the game, but not because we couldn't hit shots. As bad as we were in the first half, we were ultra-efficient in the second half (59% overall, 70% from three). Rebounding and foul shots were our downfall.

I don't understand why so many fans are so eager to give Martin a pass when he's done nothing deserving of it. And why they want to dismiss last night with "tough game" "if" "underdog" when it looked just like the 1st 2 mediocre teams Martin put out there.

This team has way too much talent to play as poorly as it did last night. If it were just one night, no big deal. But the fact is they looked just like last year and the year before that.

Watching a little of Duke/Kansas and MSU/KY kind of makes me a little sick at how much better those teams are.

I'm curious to hear your opinions on the first half performance?

FU you whinny little biatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your knowledge of UT basketball spanned more than 6 fricking years you would realize historically we are in better shape than most of our recent history. One game and this butt-hurt faction of the UT fanbase starts their bashing. GTFO if your not happy! Go root for the mildcats (oops they looked worse than us)! Just grow up and support or don't, but no need to constantly bash! GO VOLS despite this delusional fanbase!!! GO VOLS!!! :shaking2:

What happened to Kensucky last night genius!

They were an unranked team (unlike UT, they were not evan an "other receiving votes) which was missing two starters (including point guard). That changes things from the past just a little, doncha think?

Duke, Kansas, MSU, and UK have about 1000 national championships to their credit, and you're upset that we don't mirror them? Good luck carrying that burden.

The other side of that coin is that it's not uncommon for our defense to drop off when our offense starts clicking. We scored much more efficiently in the second half, but we also let Xavier do the same thing.

I've not noticed that as trend (which is not me saying you're wrong), so you may be correct.

Last night, our offensive surge (and subsequent possible defensive lapse) resulted in a modest upswing in efficiency for Xavier. They shot 41% in the first half (12-29) vs 56% in the second half (14-25). An increase of 15% and 2 more FGs.

Ours' on the other hand was an increase of 32% (from 27% to 59%) and 8 FGs (from 8 to 16).

So, we allowed them to be a little more efficient in the 2nd half, but our efficiency was more than double theirs'. Honestly, our post defense was bad all night.

Good points. Xavier's quality of shot may not have really improved much in the second half. They were getting good looks the whole game and just started hitting more of them later in the game.

I know I've felt like our defensive efficiency can go down sometimes when our offensive efficiency goes up, but I've never really looked at the numbers to verify. Maybe it's true, or maybe it's just in my head.

What happened to Kensucky last night genius!
They played a good game but were beaten by one of - if not the - best teams in the country.

UT lost to a team that will be borderline in or out of the NCAA tourney. And in this day and age, UT has an extraordinarily veteran, experienced team. If CCM doesn't make it happen this year in a big way, then he can't.

Not really hard to understand, genius.

No, I'm upset that CCM can't get a very talented UT team to be much better than mediocre.

This is the best team we're likely to have for at least the next few years. But what did we see last night? Same old Vols.

Truth is that Conzo is coaching an antiquated style of Basketball and the furthest a Conzo coached team has made it in the post season is the second round of the NIT. I wish the vols would win every game, but the truth is even though I think this is a sweet 16 team talent wise we are going to watch consistently under perform all year.

Welcome to VN.

The only problem I saw last night, was missing wide open shots, forced shots and missed free throws.

It seems like Maymon, particularly, was trying to take advantage of the new rules and get to the line by forcing shots up into the defender, and it just didn't work.

A lot of people just don't understand, if we would have hit a few more free throws, this is a complete different conversation.

Yeah, and it's not just the same, old Vols, it's the carbon copy of the first meaningful games the Vols have played the last two years. I know the team came out cold and everything but Martin's game time coaching is just pathetic. It really is sickening to see folks defend this guy. He hasn't deserved anything in the way of defense by fans.
