The Dallas Cowboys football circus thread

I'm not a cowboys fan, but I absolutely hate to see what Romo is going through. He has the worst luck at the worst times.

Super bowl here we come

i could see them winning that, though it's unlikely. overall though, the cowboys going 2-2 in those games isn't that far fetched.

on the other hand though, I don't see the Giants losing to both Miami and Minnesota.

I can see myself winning Mega Millions...still ain't gonna happen.

I want a year where a 4-12 or 5-11 team wins a division and not only makes the playoffs, but manages to make a deep run or the super bowl.

Just because.

Theres still 3 of those left Eagles, Giants and Redskins -- Eli Manning has that kind of luck

Every 4 years since 2007, Eli Manning has fumbled his way through the playoffs to upset the Pats in the Super Bowl.

The Giants are the worst best franchise in the NFL. They haven't had a superb season in like 20 years...but they still win super bowls.

I am sure that Jerry isn't an actual skeptic, he's just siding with his own best interest, but I'm not so sure we should be buying this stuff hook line and sinker yet.

We need more research and we need more data. It does seem like there is a link, but the "scientific community indisputably acknowledges that the causes of CTE remain unknown." according to a court finding.

The data coming out is that sports like football aren't the only cause of CTE, so in that sense, yes they don't understand what all can actually cause it. But the link between concussions/repeated trauma and CTE is becoming more clear with each passing year. So Jones is still an idiot on this.

I'm a data nut. We need more data. I think the most comprehensive study they did had 200 people in the control group. It's just not enough.

I agree there is most likely a link.

One question I have is how much does CTE have to do with playing football and how much does it have to do with being an extremely active athlete? They've found it in wrestlers and soccer players, too. I've had football injuries, but I've also cracked my head open on bricks messing around as a kid. I got a concussion in a wave pool. I boxed my college roommates. I was always going to be active and have accidents.

My guess is any sport where you can potentially take repeated blows to the head, they're going to find more cases. Soccer players who head the ball a lot, boxers and MMA-style fighters obviously, hockey players, etc.

Right now football is in the crosshairs because it's by far the most popular and runs the sports world. But in the end I'm guessing it will end up affecting a lot more. It will be interesting to see if they can determine how many concussions actually open you up to CTE. Is it one? Many? Like you said, plenty of people have gotten non-sports related concussions.

I got to meet Jason Witten a couple of weeks ago. My youngest daughter had this huge all day dance recital and it turns out one of Witten's daughters goes to the same school. I was wearing a TN polo and he saw it and said "nice shirt".

He was very nice.
