The disney insanity continues

Are you predicting the downfall of Disney? Oh my.

How many shares have you shorted?

Where did I predict the downfall of Disney? Sep, said to invest. The question is whether or not we see it as a bounce back over the short term. I think they have some risk. Apparently you don't.

They are 118.27 per share as of closing Friday. They were 172.01 Oct 25.

Let's try to remember to revisit this in six months to see where it stands.

So, as an aside, we were with some friends all day yesterday. They go to Disney a lot because their daughter is still young. After listening to how Disney manages the number of people that enter the various theme parks on a given day to match staffing via “reserving your park” and other methods, having to be up and on the phone using the app to get the theme park(s) you want for that day, transportation times, etc. etc., it just sounds like a lot of effort (almost a competition) after you empty your 401K or take out your annual personal loan to get your overpriced tickets. No thanks. I’m done. Kids are older and don’t really show any interest anymore. And I’ve seen what I am sure we’re several marriage ending arguments in the middle of the Magic Kingdom. Too much pressure to be a vacation. I feel for the rest of you, but if it’s your thing, that’s cool. Enjoy.

There will be no downfall of Disney. But it will rob them of some growth that they could have realized Of course you can never prove or disprove what would have been; but it is monumentally stupid to make a statement that any reasonable person would realize would alienate a plurality of your potential customers, especially over a bill that had absolutely ZERO impact on their business operations. Public criticism of the law was never going to GAIN them many new customers and not criticizing it was never going to cost them many customers. They was no upside to getting involved but tremendous potential downside. It ws a Self inflicted wound.

We have always loved Disney. I had a revelation one day however as I was standing in the German pavilion at Epcot enjoying the faux German buildings and great German food and Bier. I wondered why I was paying thousands of dollars to enjoy make believe Europe when I could basically pay the same (or maybe even less) to enjoy the real thing. So this winter, I finally did. And LOVED it.

So you’ll be fine when the government passes a law to target a conservative leaning company?

Abolutely agre. It puts states and municipalities in bidding wars trying to entice the businesses to relocate there. They need to eliminate the tax-free municipal bonds for those purposes as well. And stop giving money and land to billionaire sports teams owners.
Ultimately the tax code has become about rewarding and punishment of behavior by the parental government. One reason I’m in favor of a consumption tax and a balanced budget amendment. It should be strictly about paying the bills.

When I was 8 years old leaving the park my dad told me that the next time I go there it’d be with my kids. He was right. We took our kids and I told them the same thing.
I’ve been 2 times in my life and it was at least once too many

In 6 months I would expect Disney to be in line with their Sector.

Everyone that feels this strongly about Disney's stance, take sone time to review Human Rights Campaign and Freedom for All Americans. In response to the Don't Say Gay bill, these 220 corporations have joined this organization to protest. You have a lot of homework to try and target all these companies that are standing with Disney.

Don't shop at Target
Don't use PDFs, Adobe's on there
Advance Auto for any mechanics
-footnote, Advance Auto owns Carquest now
Airbnb
Amazon
cancel Amex cards
AT&T
Cargill
ETSY
Facebook
Stop buying Chevys-GM was first automaker to sign up
Levi's

This just scratches the surface. It'll be a full time job if anyone is serious about punishing woke companies.

Personally, I haven't read the whole Don't Say bill, but what I have read I really don't disagree with. I don't think there is a scenario where kindergarten teachers should address any type of sexuality. Call it the Don't Say Hetero bill if you like.

But the Disney issue is really about DeSantis getting free publicity to run for President and it's been perfect for taking the focus off the big gerrymandering restructuring they just pulled off. DeSantis is putting his citizens in a worse financial position for the free publicly (if this actually comes to fruition, which I bet it won't).

Dont Say Gay Bill? Where does it say that in the bill?

The Walt Disney Company is a Fortune 500 Titan.

Disney is not out to make the world a better place.
Disney is out to make a buck. Period.

EVERYTHING they do is informed by the latter.

When Disney brass believes the current course is no longer juicing future cash flows - they will change course. And they won’t budge until then.

Leftists and populist Republicans would be surprised how many big government initiatives this Libertarian would sign off on if they would agree to those two amendments.

$50 Volnation bucks says he doesn't answer that question, because he can't!🤣
Yes I used the slang term and I said what I've read of it I agree with. Have you ever referred to the Affordable Care Act as Obamacare?

Yep you got me, I used an innacurate slang term, I hope DeSantis doesn't start paying my bills to punish me.

Saying the bill says "don't say gay" isn't the same as someone saying Obamacare. He in fact came out with that legislation, where this bill in no way says what you all are trying to make it say. Get the difference? You're not just using a slang, you're trying to influence others to think it says that. People saying"Obamacare" aren't trying to deflect the fact it's his. I do like the way you have to make up a scenario in order to try and justify you wrongly labeling the legislation in this thread. You do you though man, free country.

Have ever noticed that bills obtain nicknames to garner votes from people who’ve never taken the time to read them?

Hence the word inaccurate in my post. I'm just trying to get my utilities covered.

And DeSantis already came out said said this is initial legislation and would have no citizenry tax impact.

This was a revocation of a "special tax status".

Fear mongering and lying is abundant.

One was derogatory towards a politician. Expect that every time. And BTW, it was deserved as it hasn't done squat.
This one was nothing but a lie taking on the sensibilities of a class of citizenry to get the mob all stirred up.

And DeSantis already came out said said this is initial legislation and would have no citizenry tax impact.

Further proof he’s simply posturing and has no intent of pushing this past the next election cycle.

Otherwise our governor’s statement is false.

Orange and Osceola county taxpayers would be on the hook for an additional $1.2B if he’s serious about seeing this through.
