The disney insanity continues

If eliminating special districts was the goal, and not political retribution for Disney, then there should be no need to place a “before 1968” qualifier on the bill.

The “before 1968” qualifier is to exempt residents of The Villages from the same potential spike in property taxes that Orange County and Osceola County residents could be burdened with.

I personally think the special tax situation/ tax break thing is BS anyway. So let’s eliminate the “before 1968” exemption. while we’re at it let’s do away with tax eximptions for charities and churches too.

If this is the most important thing in Disney's employees lives then Disney need new employees.
There are thousands of companies in these states and a group of pansies supposed to run things.

You are soft.

I'm soft? Am I a "dIzN3y Gr0omeR" because I've pointed out the reality of the situation they were put in?

Apparently objectivity and rationality make one "soft."

They are a $600 BILLION company with more than 200k employees with more subsidiaries than you've got IQ points. please regale us all on how you would have handled things facing a mass revolt? No don't, it's not worth the read.

Mass revolt? What?

Oh cry me a river. Disney has a tried and true business model that is a family friendly environment based on children and family entertainment.

Exactly they have over 200k employees with a few knuckleheads making a lot of noise. The vast majority have people to feed instead trying to boycott due to a Florida law. They are probably behind the scenes thinking some of these folks can "kiss my ###".

We close in 5 minutes. This round was on me but it's time for you to go home.

So does this constitutional standard apply outside of Florida? Could the Biden administration's numerous comments about the fossil fuel industry including wanting to "bankrupt" them be used to overturn the shutdown of Keystone pipeline and other anti-oil measures enacted since he was sworn in?

Does it matter that the bill doesn't require DeSantis' signature to become law? Like the federal government and most states, after a bill is passed by the FL legislative branch the governor can veto, sign or do nothing at which the bill becomes law after a set time.

Based on your posting of comments from legislators, does this speech limit also apply to them? Is it just public comments that are of concern or is debate on the floor during sessions also monitored?
Yes, the first amendment applies outside the state of Florida...? I don’t know enough about the oil industry situation to tell you if it’s a first amendment issue. Your description is missing some key components that would create a first amendment issue.

It does not matter that it does not require his signature, it’s still a state action. If it is found to be retaliatory against protected speech, it violates the first amendment.

What speech limit are you talking about applying to senators? The first amendment is not a “speech limit.” The quotes I provided, one of which was from the actual senate deliberations, are evidence of retaliatory intent by the government. There’s no limit on their speech.

Your questions make it seem like you don’t understand how the first amendment applies in this situation. It might help if you posted your understanding of it.

"We're like San Diego! But with more Antifa!"
Lots to do indeed, riot nightly, set fires in the street, beat up “fascists”, do drugs in the homeless camps. Veritable vacation paradise

This is like saying you don’t like chicken nuggets because you think feathers are gross.

If you’re picking your vacation destinations based on cable news coverage, getting out from in front of the TV and hiking to a waterfall might do you some good.

Why aren't you whining about the other 150 businesses that chimed in long before Disney did?

Here's a list of other "lib" companies that I'm sure you'll do your best to cancel and blame for "Gro0MinG."

FYI - ALL of them signed the Human Rights Campaign letter before the mouse was forced to step in. But yeah - let's rally around DeSantis ******* over a bunch of tax payers out of spite

A few posts before this you report they have over 200k employees. Then point to a few hundred as a mass revolt? Little hyperbolic?

I would suppose it'd be subjective to the importance of who was protesting. That few hundred that marched wasn't even in Florida. Nonetheless, it was enough to get the attention of management.

Everyone that feels this strongly about Disney's stance, take sone time to review Human Rights Campaign and Freedom for All Americans. In response to the Don't Say Gay bill, these 220 corporations have joined this organization to protest. You have a lot of homework to try and target all these companies that are standing with Disney.

Don't shop at Target
Don't use PDFs, Adobe's on there
Advance Auto for any mechanics
-footnote, Advance Auto owns Carquest now
Airbnb
Amazon
cancel Amex cards
AT&T
Cargill
ETSY
Facebook
Stop buying Chevys-GM was first automaker to sign up
Levi's

This just scratches the surface. It'll be a full time job if anyone is serious about punishing woke companies.

Personally, I haven't read the whole Don't Say bill, but what I have read I really don't disagree with. I don't think there is a scenario where kindergarten teachers should address any type of sexuality. Call it the Don't Say Hetero bill if you like.

But the Disney issue is really about DeSantis getting free publicity to run for President and it's been perfect for taking the focus off the big gerrymandering restructuring they just pulled off. DeSantis is putting his citizens in a worse financial position for the free publicly (if this actually comes to fruition, which I bet it won't).

You ever been to Oklahoma?

The kitchen faucet is about the tallest waterfall out here.

Now that seems unnecessarily unflattering. Give yourself some credit. It’s a fast-moving thread, it’s not your fault you didn’t know that half of it is people making stuff up to support stupid moves by Florida. Sure, you got some egg on your face from jumping in without looking both ways, but nobody expects better of you.

You're a good poster. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we don't. I just don't think we need employees bullying management to take political stances. Then large corporations trying to openly use bully pulpits in influencing policy decisions. I don't care who they are, even my own global employer.
