Vintage graded is where the investment value begins. New stuff is great for kids to get started and money can be made but money can also be lost. If he ever got serious and wanted to build a collection while also maintaining steady growth…Vintage Graded is the only game in town!

Agreed. I’m not sure how old you are, but with the amount of modern junk that’s being slabbed, I really think we are in the junk slab era! ‘24 Topps base being slabbed is ridiculous, imo.

It is good for a quick flip or if you want to sit on a guy and hope and pray he is next Mike Trout but way too volatile and then you get a guy like Wander Franco or Tatis and you better file for bankruptcy…lol

Yes T206 Hof have to be Psa 2…my e95 set is mixture of psa and sgc…then you have this…my 61 topps set…that has to be Psa 7…and my 55 all american football as well..View attachment 633042View attachment 633043View attachment 633044
Is that a collection or a museum?! 😎
My boy is strictly baseball except for some Manning and Brady rookies and some late 80’s Jordan’s, I gave him, but I’ve had my eye on those ‘55 AA cards for a while now. Those are too cool and most nice, raw copies that I’ve researched, won’t break the bank. Also, it’s loaded with some Tennessee legends!

When we’ve passed away, come find me in heaven so I can introduce you to my grandfather. He never missed a Braves game from 1966 to 2018 when he died. He always had it on radio at work or on TBS at home.

When he died, I inherited his baseball collections. He was 5’6 and I’m 6’2” so I can’t wear any of it but the vintage Braves gear I got has to be worth a ton. Stuff from the 80’s era uniforms especially.

I also got 7 full sized totes full of baseball cards dating from the 1960’s to the 2010’s. It’s been 6 years since he died and I haven’t even gone through all of it yet. Each tote weighs 50+lbs or so. I could be sitting on my ticket to an early retirement with all he left me.

All that to say, he was always a fascinating conversation when it came to baseball. Dropped out of school in 6th grade. Was military then a laborer his entire life. By all accounts he was as “uneducated white southerner” as it gets, but he couldve probably beaten Jeff Passan in baseball trivia.

Rambling at this point because I miss the old man, but the dusty baker segment reminded me of him.
that’s really neat. I can relate. I still miss my Grandfather every day. I wrote a paper in eighth grade about my grandfather being my hero. My teacher said I hope you give that to him so he knows. I never did and regret it to this day. As a country song goes, I wish granddads never died.

That is what got me started in that set…all the Tennessee guys. Did you know Herman Hickman was the guy who selected the set for Topps? No wonder he is card #1. Yeah my collection is rather extensive but the beauty with vintage cards is there is almost an option for any budget based on condition etc…As for the All American set there are right at 40 registered sets at PSA 7 level and up. I’m very happy I completed that sucker!

That’s impressive! Are you local(knox area)?
Do you ever go to any of the local shows?
They are small but my son and I have a good time when we attend.

You have a beautiful collection! My son and I will probably never come close to a collection like that and that’s ok. We treat it as a hobby and a fun way to bond over a sport that both of us love!

It’s not a competition….each and every collection is a good one. I can’t be buried with it anyway…or wait…maybe I can…hahahahahaha

I think I had read something about the Hickman deal, that sounds familiar.
