Kershaw went 3 out of 4 seasons having a sub-2 ERA. Verlander only did that once. deGrom has really been the only one that has put up similar numbers but unfortunately for him, he is always injured or playing for the Mets all those years.

Helps to pitch less and always be hurt when you are out of your prime…meanwhile Verlander keeps going and going. Accumulation matters in baseball. Always has and always will. None of his total will equal Verlander. Should have pitched more…then he could have accumulated more while his percentages went down and his Era etc went up. That’s how it works. Cant Sandy Koufax it and then say you are better than Greg Maddux. One guy did it great for a time and was done, the other did it and never stopped doing it. Both great…yes…both Hof…certainly. But one is better than the other.
The only thing Verlander has that Kershaw doesn’t is Kate Upton. Other than that, Kershaw has him beat in nearly every statistic. Verlander gave up 100+ ER in two separate seasons. The most Kershaw ever gave up in a single season was 66. It’s not even debatable at this point 😂

Yes injuries matter. Nobody thinks Denny McLain is all time great for a few wonderful years. You can’t stack up injured guys like Degrom, Sale, Kershaw and put them where Verlander and Scherzer have got. Trout will never get to the numbers Pujols did etc..It’s not debate on who is better for a certain period of time…it’s who had a better career. Barring some rejuvenation potion Verlander has had a better career and will have better overall numbers. All numbers you point to that help Kershaw are helped by the fact he pitched less and far less out of his prime. That again is why Koufax averages, Era etc look so damn good. If you want to say at his absolute best Kershaw is better then there is a case for that. Verlander hits close to his best far many more times than Kershaw does. I will take the 20 year guy I can trust.

You can look at averages all you want. Verlander is above him in War, Hof monitor, Black Ink, Gray Ink…so on and so forth….its not debateable…if you like Kershaw….good for you…he just isn’t where Verlander is career wise…I don’t make the criteria up…

You don’t make up the criteria. You just pick and choose which stats to pluck to better suit your opionion that Verlander is better than Kershaw even though he lags behind in the majority of the metrics. Severely behind in some categories. I don’t make up the stats. They are what they are. And they show Kershaw is better.

No I go by every career stat and monitor system there is…lol…isn’t that exactly what you are doing…hahaha…too funny…cant have a better career when you have barely pitched in your 30’s….Kershaw stats frozen in time because he can’t stay healthy and as soon as he is about to suck he goes on the shelf again…

Idk why you think he would suck. He just had a 2.46 ERA at age 35. You are just hating at this point and it’s sad.

Whatever you say man….smdh…enjoy watching him play…oh wait…nm
I don’t have to watch a guy for 20 years to realize he is great. We got 16 years of the best in this generation. Guess that’s not good enough for casual fans. Enjoy the game tomorrow.

I’d be very interested to see how many of those Mets losses were 1-0, 2-1 type losses?
Tommy deGrom would straight up be dealing but for some reason got very little run production when he was on the bump.

His huge issue is that he has only pitched 150 innings plus 4 times. Zero longevity. Tim Lincecum esque. I didn’t see anybody making excuses for my guy Chris Sale when he was tearing up the league but wasting away and losing stats on the White Sox. Sale has been hurt the better part of 5 years and is still younger and has pitched 500 more innings than DeGrom…wild huh…

I don’t care what any of you goons think, all I know is I’ve watched Verlander, Kershaw and Scherzer have Hall of Fame careers, possibly 1st ballot.
These 3 are definitely a dying breed and They’ve caused some heartache for my teams but I’ve wnjoyed watching them.
I don’t know if deGrom has the numbers to get in, but I’ll say this, in watching him pitch, he is every bit as talented as the other 3, maybe the most talented of the 4? He just didn’t have the luck factor on his side, like the others had.

Sale has looked pretty damn good this season!
Just like deGrom, health and a little bit of luck...

I put deGrom in the same category as Kershaw. Just wasn’t lucky enough to be healthy.
