The End of the Bruce Pearl Era.

Somehow I didnt remember Jerry Green winning an SEC title or achieving a number 1 ranking......shall I go on? Really think before you write. Your comparing apples to oranges.

I missed this gem. Green has a regular season SEC title to his credit, same as Bruce. Do rankings really matter come March? Especially if we lost the day after "achieving" that number 1 ranking.

You put quotes like we didn't earn the right to have a #1 ranking.

Having issues with problems is one thing, but give credit where it is due.

I give Bruce full credit for 4 straight trips to the tournament and that #1 ranking, no matter how short lived it was. He was the coach when we achieved those things, and I was absolutely excited in his first years here. However, some people dub Bruce the savior and discredit the past saying "He's the best we've ever had" when in all actuality there was a stretch before when we have accomplished pretty much this same thing. I thought that he could be the guy to get us to the next level, however with what I have seen lately these guys are playing so...I don't want to say selfishly. I guess the best word is lazy. I take that back, there are a select few that get on the court and give 110%. ALL the players played with a different fire when he first got here. I don't know what happened between then and now, and I am not 100% sure who that falls on...but it seems to me that intensity trickles down from the coaches. If we ever came out flat and played stupid, coach would dig into us and chew everyone of us out. If the starters don't hustle, then put in someone who will. Let them know that this crap product that has been on the floor at times isn't acceptable.

How would he know that (WIKI has not been updated)?

How much credit is being #1 for 40+/- hours due?

How many teams do you think throughout history might have met or exceeded that (10's, 100's)?

How many of those who have accomplished it do you hear bragging about it incessantly like you hear Pearl supporters brag about it?

I have followed basketball for over 40 years and have never once heard a fan bragging that they were number #1 for a few hours once. How about you?

I can understand that. There needs to be drive from the 5 guys on the floor, and some of them have lost it.

It just gets tiring for people to use the 2nd half of December as a Anti-Pearl whine fest. We don't look great right now, but we're still top-10. I think we have a pretty good problem. We are good enough that we expect excellence every game. 6 years ago, it was a banner year if we hung with Kentucky for 36 minutes.

Expectations have, rightly, changed. Pearl has had a rough time. He recruits, they show up, and screw up. Or end up with a life-altering/threatening health issue.

It's hard to plan when you never keep a class.

That said, this squad isn't where they need to be, but I'm not conceding the season.

Let me guess, you also believe he was a lock to get the Arizona job until he pulled his name because he just "loved the orange?"

I see you've been here for a year and have less than 100 posts. Any possible way you could post less? It would make the board better.

Here goes the "since you don't have 10,000 plus posts you can't have an opinion" bs.

In your 40 years of following basketball, who has done a better job at UT than Bruce Pearl?

I don’t know. I have not followed UT basketball for 40 years.

Let's say that he has been the best. Let's also say that he has plateau and never will exceed what he has done. How many years does he get a pass?

Comparing Pearl and Green in their success at UT is hilarious...

Green won something like 70% of his games, and so has Bruce in their first 4 years. With pretty much the same tournament success. I really don't see anything funny

This is his 5th year. We have been to the tourney every year. I won't pretend to know (or think I know) as much as the so called experts on this board, but I can tell you he has done more for this program than any other coach we have ever had. And time will tell if he has plateaued.

If he gets us to the Tourney every year he will be here for atleast another 5 years unless he leaves of his own accord. I am not saying he is the best coach. Clearly there are better coaches. However, he is an elite recruiter. We needed one in a bad way. He is not an awful coach but he is not the best. Why do we continue to debate this? We are a football school. I cannot see us firing a guy who is winning games, getting recruits and taking us to the tourney every year. I would be honestly shocked if he was fired anytime soon.

If I can give you your hypothetical that he has been the best for 40 years then you can give me my hypothetical that he has plateaued. If he has, then how many years do you give him a pass?

I agree with you. But it is sports so we debate the minutiae.

Jumping ship on a top 25 basketball team with Top 15 talent after merely 2 losses is laughable. Especially if we are actually having legitimate discussions about CBP's job security.

Pearl and Green may be somewhat comparable in SEC and tournament stats, but Pearl has ushered in a new passion, ignited the fan base, and increased the expectations of our bball program. He owes no one on this board an apology for putting us back on the national map.

At least we are playing teams like Kansas, Memphis, Gonzaga, and Ohio State year in and year out, rather than steering clear of holiday tournaments and scheduling Missouri state, South Fla, etc. for home and homes.

If we base success on wins, tournament appearances, conference championships and the revitalization of the program, then there is nothing hypothetical about saying he has been the best over the last 40 years. I just hope and pray you are wrong about saying he has plateaued. Time will tell. To be honest, this has been the most excited I have been about UT basketball. For now, going to the tourney every year keeps me giddy. I really don't know how long that feeling will last. Happy Holidays nonetheless.

???

Tabb, Johnson, Smith, Crews, Prince, Hopson (so far), Childress. He hasn't exactly pulled in the best talent, and sure as heck havn't developed them. For every Tatum or Chism, we have 2-3 guys who suck, never improve, regress, or get kicked off. I think the jury is still out on Pearl's recruiting. Sure, he got guys with lots of recruiting stars, but they haven't exactly done much. Based on Pearl's success, Peterson was a better recuiter.

He's a good recruiter. He is not an elite recruiter. He hasn't recruited well for his system, has no PG or post presence.

FYI Harris looks more fragile than Chism on film and he will clearly need to beef up if we are looking for a traditional post presence

If you're talking about weight, then how much Tobias weighs isn't necessarily relevant to how his post game will be
