The Endzone Garden Thread

Daffodils are beginning to bloom in my yard. Da fuq…?

I've got and endless amount of yellow, then white daffodils that come up early in Feb & Mar all over the edges of the woods and yard, and scattered in between around trees. Even in the flower beds. Followed by a carpet of whitish blue wildflower that will run 20 feet deep into the woods. None of which I have ever planted. But, it makes for a colorful introduction to the season. I'll try to remember to take a few pics to post this year.

Just inside the dog pen, there is a huge circle of roadside orange day lilies about 15 feet accross. And some creeping flox that comes up for a while in early season out in the yard that my grandma had planted.

There were some white peonies my mom transplanted down at her house that my grandmother had planted. That mound is probably 70 years old. With my parents having passed, I need to go see if they have survived my sister and move them back up to my house where they came from.

There is also a bank or two down the road totally carpeted in Lilly of the Valley. I have transplanted some to my flower beds trying to get them established heavily.

Gardening to me is getting the perennials bedded thickly then taking it easy.

Daffies greenery will rise during February, but usually, the blooms do not open until March, here, on the north Georgia Piedmont.

I grew up in Griffin and lived in Hartwell for 16 years. What area do you live? I'm now on the Cumberland Plateau outside of Cookeville, TN, at the family place my dad grew up.

I frequented Hartwell many times during the 80s. Presently, I live in Gwinnutia.

In 1986, I negotiated to buy a lakeside house in Hartwell. I reached an agreement in principal with the owner and presented signed offer. In the eleventh hour, his wife objected. He declined my offer and proceeded to pump money into the property. If that hadn't fallen through, I might be living there today. I may not have moved so often for work. I might have found a way to stay put.

I ended up there with my company. We had a plant there. It's a pretty nice place since Anderson, SC and Athens are accessible. But its also one of those places you either like, or not. The lake makes it. You could have got in on the sale of Mark Richt's lake house when he sold it. Not sure how often he came up. I never saw him in town.

I'm no spry chicken but in '86 I was a junior in college. But my girlfriends dad at the time had a lot, and we would go skiing up there.

My shot was in the 80s. Life moved on.

I'm planning on building a raised garden bed this year since my house is a new build and the soil is complete chit (not in a good way). Anyone had luck with raised beds? Maybe share your design???? 😀

Design? Not so much. Mix in egg shells and fish guts to the soil. Whatever you decide to grow will thrive big time.
