Do the dogs just run through beds and casually destroy, or are the digging up plants?Have not stained it yet and temporarily screwed old deck boards too it to prevent dogs, but here is the potatoes bin. View attachment 439074
They dig for gawd knows whatDo the dogs just run through beds and casually destroy, or are the digging up plants?
Our cat likes flying through the fluffy Fancy Dirt (like she plays in snow), and sometimes does her business there , but the only damage she does to plants was the time she sprawled all over a catnip plant. Dumb stoner cat.
Broccoli and Brussel sprouts in.
Do you have problems with cabbage moths (and worms)? If so, do you use row covers, etc.?Planted broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, lettuce, and spinach on Sunday.Going to get cold this weekend.
We plant other things among the garden to deter bugs.Do you have problems with cabbage moths (and worms)? If so, do you use row covers, etc.?
Our first bug - excuse me, pollinator, grrr - to show up each year is the white cabbage butterfly (Pieris rapae.) It’s also the last to depart. Its larval form is the “imported cabbageworm,” and it can be pretty destructive to plants in the cabbage family. I don’t even plant anything it likes (yet), as the last thing I need is to feed another bug. I’d sure like to plant Brussels sprouts one day, though.

All your pics are wonderful! But they make me jealous and somewhat sad. I live in an apartment now; I miss my yard. Although it was a great deal of work, it was also a stress reliever and creative outlet. Mom and I would cruise the neighborhood before trash pick up day to salvage discarded chairs, tables, screens...One of my favorite tools was a can of spray paint.

Damn, that would break my heart to leave that! But house and yard can be a lot to keep up. We’re looking for someone to help, but not a landscape maintenance service intent on making our yard look like everyone else’s. Just someone to do some occasional heavy lifting. (I’m 67; husband is 72.)Mom and I used to laugh and say that we kept our tacky in the back. This is front of house. Azaleas weren't blooming.

I made 4 clippings last year around June. Kept them in buckets all summer. Left them outside for the winter. Yesterday they all started budding. I think all 4 are going to make it.That was nice of the owners to let you do that. I should have asked to take some cuttings from my grandmother’s flowering almond from her old house on Tanglewood.
