Agreed--I don't either. When we were perennial contenders I would root for our conference. Now that we are down, it is much harder. I happily admit it is attributable to bitterness and sour grapes.

Strength of the SEC is what brings the better recruits to the conference.

Some of you guys need to lose the skirt and stop wishing for a weaker conference.

Ignorance. If this is how you think, then you don't understand college athletics.

Their winning DOES help our recruiting, smart one. Your denial of this does not make it false. Other SEC teams win = our conference is the best. Our conference is the best = the best recruits want to come to the SEC. The best recruits want to come to the SEC = some of them come to Tennessee. Plus, Jonesy, or whoever our coach is at any time, can use that as a selling point.

You have to sacrifice your hate for our 'enemies' for the sake of your 'love' for the Vols.

Really, you really think that? So, If you ever look up past UT greats none come from north of KY or west of the Mississippi?. Even those on here wanting the SEC to lose bowls would not be in agreement with this thought. Right guys?:hi:

I was cheering for Nebraska and Northwestern seeing as though we don't compete against them very much in recruiting. I was rooting for South Carolina to shut down Michigan's run game to possibly help in the recruitment of Derrick Green. Once these teams get to the bowls the conference gets the same money win or lose. I cheer for what's in the best interest of UTs football program everything else is irrelevant to me.

Explain why we were pulling in top recruiting classes when SC, Georgia, and Bama sucked


Wait, I remember why!

Because we could go into those states and cherry pick the best recruits

We rely heavily on recruiting rival territory. When the
home schools are strong, we suffer in recruiting

We will not win with all Tennessee HS recruits

We are the 2nd best SEC team in Tennessee

Finally some sense, great thread OP. Conference or League pride is bulls*** Your first and only allegiance should be to your team. Conference power can come and go in cycles just like teams, The SEC has been up for a long time now but none of it has been enjoyed by UT. What hurts your rival makes you stronger.

Those saying other SEC teams winning hurts our recruiting are dead wrong. If you are in a recruiting battle with an SEC team then maybe in that perticular case it helps if they lose but overall being in the dominant conference helps. Here is a great example...our number one target is probably the RB from Virginia. He is said to be choosing between Tennessee and Michigan. South Carolina beating their a$$ today was a beautiful thing. Come play against the best of the best!

The Vols will certainly add some misery to the equation

Watching the Bowls it's apparent how far we must come to become competitive once again....sadly it could be many years

Yeah, Alateabagger winning 3 of the last 4 championships has done wonders for UT recruiting! Why, we're 12th in recruiting right now because of it! IN THE CONFERENCE!! And only 11 places behind Alabubba!! YES!!! Beat Notre Dame, Bama, so we can have another 12th-place recruiting class next year!! Thank you, thank you Little Nicky! I'm bent over - may I have another??
