The eternal QB debate (merged)

He looked sub par even in THIS game against a bad defense. He consistently threw high and behind our receivers, which is giong to get one of them serisously hurt having to go up and twist for balls. The overthrow to Teague was awful. The fumble 10 yards behind the LOS, which we got very lucky on, was awful. Sure he made a few decent throws, but a decent high school qb could go out there and make a FEW good throws against Ohio.

Actually coming into this game Ohio had a top 10 passing defense. So I wouldn't quite call them that bad. That being said, Crompton looks piss poor and I gasp everytime he drops back to pass. It's kind of like you know he's going to throw 2+ INT's a game.

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.

:nono: Lay off the bottle and watch the game! Let CLK do the coaching, I think he knows what he's doing. unlike you knowing what your talking about.

GO VOLS!

Well if you think crompton is bad, and stephens has done nothing to say he's better. How bad is stephens gonna be? How about you grow a pair, and give kiffin a chance.

CLK has to know that we have little to no chance of being successful in the SEC portion of our schedule with JC as our QB. Can the staff "manage" the game with him in there? The UF game showed yes. But JC just isn't consistent enough against decent teams to get the W.

I agree with another poster who commented that he (she?) thought the staff was basically trying to see what he was capable of last night. Why else would you come out with a passing game plan (with wet conditions) after having seen his past results?

Very good job on creating a thread where one single person didnt agree with you :eek:k:

What I am thinking is, who in their damn right mind thinks that Crompton still needs to be starting every ballgame, Crompton is a freaking hysterical Joke

You know...at some point you should sit down and think about WHY Crompton is still in instead of Stevens. I believe our coaching staff knows more football than we ever will. Maybe Stevens is worse...ever think about that?

Agreed, this is the worst thread I've seen since I joined a few months ago. I wonder why this guy hasn't come back to take his beatings and comment even more.

Didn't see or hear the game, but looking at stats, Crompton's performance was 50% completions, over 200 yds. passing w/ 1 int. I've seen worse.

We are looking at a 5-7 season unless we change the offense. Get rid of the pro style whatever offense we have and go to a wishbone or something. Put an athletic QB back there and run another offense. Put Hardesty and Brown and one of the other ex-Qb's. We can't be any worse. We are a running team. Coach is more worried about 2 or 3 years from now. I am worried about right now.

I believe Kiffin has an ego problem. He's decided that Crompton is his QB, no matter what. Any "normal" coach would have pulled Crompton. If Kiffin is worried about Crompton's confidence level, it's too late.

Yeah, the boo-birds in the stands that call themselves fans helped Crompton A TON!

Not dismissing your comment, but the stats don't begin to tell the story of his play last night. It was horrendous.

I feel bad knocking a fellow human being so badly but he isn't. A real fan would request to sit on the bench or leave the team. He isn't doing any good for the team. This really does sound horrible but it's true. He is being selfish by putting himself on the field.
.

This is ridiculous. One thing worse than being bad is being a quitter. Coach tells him to go in, so he goes in. Get over it.

So you're saying drop the offense that is drawing tons of top flight recruits just because things are going semi-bad?? Why don't the coaches just throw all the players under the bus while they're at it...

This isn't high school football. The most successful offenses in college have an established identity. We just don't have SEC-quality talent right now thanks to The Fired Coach.

With our talent, we aren't winning more than 7 or 8 games this year. Heck, Rich Rodriguez went 3-9 in year 1 at Michigan, but after getting a talented QB that fits his offense perfectly, he has them at 4-0 this year.

Well played...I didn't even think about that.

I wonder if Lane still thinks Crompton is draftable.

He had his fingers crossed when he said that, so It has takises backsies..................My guess was to try to help boost confidince or keep us in a tizy and hes really a little better than what were all flamed up about,NAH..................still not cool if they PUNKED US!

Yeah, that should be pretty easy to do. Uninstall one offensive playbook and install another one in a week. I'm pretty sure we'd still have a shot at the National Title if we did that too. No

People just need to look at this season as one big scrimmage, because that's what it is. The staff is doing what they can with they have, but it takes time to get the players you need to play the way you want. I don't understand why that's so hard to grasp? Does anyone really think that by starting Stephens, we're going to do so much better? Some of you have a either a really bad memory or a really selective one when it comes to him. And what happens if Stephens comes in and does the same thing or worse? Suicide? That's no good.

He wasn't fired for playing JC. But I agree that CLK has to understand he's going to have to try something else. JC isn't cutting it.

I love how your phrase is 1 INT in 11 attempts...

Did you know that against Wyoming (not quite Florida), Stephens had 2 INTs in 9 attempts (1 of which was returned for a TD)?

You should think about that every time you say that Crompton throws interceptions and that Stephens is more accurate.
(for the record, he was 3-9 with 2 INTs)
