The eternal QB debate (merged)

Hey "GUY" it's not like we are calling him and saying this, and well he sucks so get over it. BOOOOOOO CROMPTON Worst QB in College football. We would be a better team if we had the guy from Ohio at QB for us.....

I would like to bring a 100,000 critics to your job or classroom and see how well you would perform under the microscope. Sitting in your seat booing him is not going to make him play better more then likely it will make him play worse from the crowd pressure. When someone is down you offer a helping hand, are you sure your a true fan?

.....from me. It's apparent that JC doesn't have the skills necessary to be a winning QB in the SEC, but the guy does have courage. How many of us could walk onto a football field knowing that your own fans will boo you before the day is over. It takes courage to try to compete when everything is going against you. If Kiffin wants to continue playing Crompton, then blame Kiffin. It's up to the coach to make a change, not up to the QB to take himself out of the game, unless he's injured. If the fans would show more support for Crompton from now on, he just might get better. If not, so be it.

Exactly. Wish everyone would give the guy a break. He isn't the first 5* bust in the history of college football--or this university--and he certainly won't be the last.

Damn straight. Tennessee needs to be behind Crompton this year not matter what. I would be very happy to see us have a 7-9 win season and Crompton win us a bowl game. He deserves it as does Montario and all the seniors. They have been through more than any other class of seniors I can remember at UT, and I'm pulling for them. Most of the ones left from that class are role models for our younger guys, and the future only looks bright. GBO

How many interceptions of Crompton's 8 have been passes thrown to Gerald Jones? Funny thing after 4 days of throwing Crompton under the bus Jones admitted three wrong routes and cutting another flat but hell let Crompton take the fall. No Crompton is not Peyton Manning but you same people were yelling and screaming for JC when EA was starting. GROW UP!!

Hmmm... read half of the first page and I'm done with thread, after making a plea to the mods to remove "guru" from the name of the OP.

Are you already holding for Vol Calls to discuss the situation with CLK?

Crompton is the worst QB I have ever seen.

With that said, I completely respect Crompton as a person. He works his butt off and for the past two years he's taken a lot of crap from fans. A lot of people in his position would just quit, but he stays the course...you gotta respect that in a person. On top of that, he never complains.

He doesn't quit because, in his mind, he's a perfectly effective college QB!! Have we ever heard Crompton say that he's had a poor game, or that he and the passing game need to get better! No! Never! He thinks throwing 2/3 INTS a game, with 80 yards passing, is perfectly fine--he's sort of said this once or twice. He's NEVER taken responsibility for having a lousy game. In his own mind, he's an All America every week! He overthrows a wide open receiver--and then goes down the field and pats the WR on the shoulder as if the WR were to blame for the missed connection. Sometimes, of course, our WRs are to blame--but Crompton seems rather oblivious to everything--including the fact that our passing attack consists of throwing to backs--and maybe, at this stage of his star-crossed career, that is helping him a little bit. We should stop talking about him as Kiffin has dug in his heels with him--why, I don't know--and that's that.

Good post. Crompton is playing to the best of his ability. We may not like his ability level, but it is what it is. It sickens me when I read the personal attacks on the board. Criticize the play, not the person.

Hardesty deserves to go to a bowl more than anybody. How hard has it been for him having to ride the pine behind Foster, knowing he should start? Get that man a bowl win and an NFL contract.

Crompton should get a purple heart.

I don't care what Crompton thinks anymore. Bottom line is he shows up for work everyday and gives his all for Tennessee. He has never gotten in trouble and never complained and you have to admire that in any 18-22 year old kid, especially at his position. This isn't the NFL.

I agree. I need to stop bashing him. It's apparent he can do no better on the field. Wished he would take some credit for bad play though and not brush it off and say it's just the way the game is played! Guess I will turn off the radio when he is interviewed so I don't bash him again.
I will try my best to stop it.

I certainly did my share of slamming Cromton's decision making during the game, but there was a lot that happened in that game that can be built off of. He made some good throws that weren't caught when they should have been. I couldn't see the details, but it didn't look like Crompton made a mind-numbing decision that resulted in an interception... he made a good pass in a somewhat questionable decision that was popped up by Jones and intercepted.

The telling point is with Crompton's performance after his interception. We were down 14-7 which has been the typical point when Compton loses his cool and digs us further in a hole. He didn't. Maybe I'm trying to be optimistic, but hopefully Crompton is learning. He certainly tries and cares about what happens.

I don't want to come across like a brainless cheerleader here, but all Vols fans at the Auburn game need to be behind Crompton the entire game. Kiffin won't pull him out, no matter what it would seem... in that case the fans will only make it worse. Though, given the barners run defense, I think Crompton will be throwing <25 passes.

CLK should be fired if he can not see for a fact, that Stephens is far and away the best QB that we have on the roster.

Crompton SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring in Stephens lets try to finish with a winning record. IMO Crompton will not allow us to do that. Jonathon :censored: Crompton

JC can't pass in the middle and thats a huge disadvantage. He is usually a half step late with his passes causing receivers to lean back to make grab or it being tipped in air and intercepted

Has anyone thought for a second that the pressure Crompton feels is not caused by the defense he is against but our fans? How would you like to be under a 100,000 person microscope each week, knowing if you do not play perfect you will be getting booed, people on message boards blasting your every move. Is it too hard to fathom that perhaps he does so well in practice is there are no boo birds around?

It is so easy to sit in your chair and call someone names and critique their ever move, how would you like to have has many critics and bosses overlooking you everyday that JC has. No matter what time they arrive from a road game JC is at church the next day, he loves being a VOL, is it too much to ask that the fans support him next week against the Tigers and take some pressure off of him.
Bull crap. EVERY qb in major college fb has the same thing. It's part of it. His continual comments that hit everything EXCEPT acceptung blame are what give me NO qualm calling a spade a spade

fans pay alot of money for seats and are also buying the right to vocalize their opinions. It's part of the game. If an athlete doesn't like/can't handle the pressure of having his every move and decision dissected, he should not be an athlete. It is part of the game. Who here wouldn't trade whatever they're doing now to be the starting QB at Tennessee? It's an honor and a responsibility. He's not just representing himself, he's representing me and every other Vol (I know ya'll are gonna disagree there). When you are invited to be a part of something greater than yourself, you get alot of expectations - and alot of perks.
That said, I think we can win many games with crompton, as long as we aren't forced to make a big comeback.

I feel bad knocking a fellow human being so badly but he isn't. A real fan would request to sit on the bench or leave the team. He isn't doing any good for the team. This really does sound horrible but it's true. He is being selfish by putting himself on the field.

Watching him play makes me want to vomit. I've given him the benefit of the doubt over and over again but this is too much. He is single handedly keeping Ohio in the game.

Since he won't request to sit on the bench, could we maybe entice him to leave the team for a nice chunk of change. I would gladly chip in a hundred bucks to get him to go away. If a thousand of us would do that, Crompton could walk away with a hundred grand and never look back. No hard feelings and we would agree never to disparage his family name again.

What about the other players who are getting a full scholarship and never see the field? Just because they have earned the starting position you cannot hold them to a higher standard because of a scholarship vs someone with the same scholarship who is not even playing.

I just don't see why ya''ll cant see the obvious. I mean you got TV and news papers/internet don't you?

Go ahead, sit Stephens, he could be the next Peyton Manning.

"If an athlete doesn't like/can't handle the pressure of having his every move and decision dissected, he should not be an athlete".

Not everyone handles pressure the same. Some feed off it and perform better, others not so much.
