The eternal QB debate (merged)

I just hope, pray and wish that Crompton would have a breakout game. 2 or 3 TD's with no more than 1 INT against Auburn would sure do it. I know it's wishful thinking at this point...I just think he's a good person and want him to have a good game to get the fan base behind him.
I hope he does it for himself and the team. Fact is, there will be no breakout game. I would love to be wrong. I still will know that he is an inadequate QB and that is mild. I hate it for the kid. I hope he has a killer game.

We do not have a capable QB to throw to them enough to critique their play. The dropped passes are from lack of having enough passes thrown to them to acclamate them to catching. :crazy:

save this string... and read it next year before kick off of the first game.... Stephens will not be at UTK, and we will not have a solid QB established.....

Why? I see no reason or evidence for this other than your very apparent obsession with seeing Kiffin fail because your hero got his feelings hurt and quit like a coward.

I personally don't think Stephens is a quitter like Coleman... and because he's not, I'm next to certain he'll be the starter next fall.

Speed typos are speed typos. Get used to it. You obviously don't "know" me. I dare say I'd win a spelling bee, geography bee, history bee or science bee against you. You'd get me on a math drill.... unless we were focusing on figuring a profit margin while doing 90 mph through Atl on the way to Hartsfield while moderating a conference call

Who is going to play QB, Nick Stephens? Stop with these threads. Super hero Nick completed less than half of his passes a year ago. He was 3 for 9 with two picks against Wyoming last year. We have to figure out how to win with Cromp this year and probably Nick next year. We knew this when Kiffin came in.
 
He looked sub par even in THIS game against a bad defense. He consistently threw high and behind our receivers, which is giong to get one of them serisously hurt having to go up and twist for balls. The overthrow to Teague was awful. The fumble 10 yards behind the LOS, which we got very lucky on, was awful. Sure he made a few decent throws, but a decent high school qb could go out there and make a FEW good throws against Ohio.

Today Tom Brady missed a wide open Randy Moss downfield and Kurt Warner missed a surefire td to Fitzgerald.

crompton sucks, he is an embarassment to tenn football. supposedly he is a great practice player, but if it doesnt transfer over into games, lets put stephens in and see what happens....cant get any worse.

We and in particular YOU have no say in the matter. The guys who've watched and studied every minute detail of the performances and abilities of the two guys in question get to make that call... sorry.

FWIW, I'm curious too about Stephens and very dissatisfied with JC's performance but I am under NO DELUSIONS that it can't get worse because it most assuredly can... MUCH WORSE. And remember, when UT goes to Stephens... Crompton is likely done, completely useless... not even a competent, "hand the ball off" back up.

Do you remember the reason JC was given the nod over Nick?... Decision making and accuracy. Are you still so sure it can't get worse? Better think again.

FWIW, I've been watching for the announcement all day that after a review of the game film the QB competition would be reopened or perhaps even that the O needs a "spark" so Stephens would start.
 
All I can say is I am not happy about his play but I am man enough to say all this bashing is not helping the matter. CLK has zero confidence in Stephens which tells me under this offense Stephens is even worse then JC. I am sure players and recruits read these boards and all the negativity cannot be good for us in the long haul. Just because we don't see them post does not mean their not here. I would rather offer a helping hand to someone who is down then to throw rocks at them.
I know and you are right....Well, I DON'T think they are looking at the boards and if they are they are disregarding a policy that the coaches set. Most of the kids know better on many levels other than because it is unwise to do something that very wise mentors tell you not to do. You ARE right that it just isn't good. I want JC to be the best he can be at anything he attempts at life.
 
How about "let's" as in, "Let's state our opinions and respect the rights of everyone else to do the same without making it a personal issue".

Does everyone understand that?
 
After two years of his dismal play, I had to read this post even though I knew it would be brutal at times. I am glad I did because you guys (and ladies if you are here), are hilarious and sometimes even insightful. My thoughts are varied on Crompton. He made us confident that he would do well after Ainge left with the LSU game and then that player totally disappeared! We all get to analyse and criticise him but he has been resilient to the abuse. If only he had the mental QB skills to be resilient on the field, we would all be happy.

Did anybody think after the LSU game that he would or could turn out like this? I doubt it. So somewhere along the way, things went terribly off course for him. We have to suffer through the rest of the season with him barring injury so accept it and wait til LK gets his own man. Bryce Petty would have been a better alternative IMO even with Freshman mistakes, but . . . . .
In retrospect, I think that that game was the one time where he did'nt have to think. Raw ability utilized in a "dumbed down" role due to his inexperience. Also, he had yet to make the coaches have visions of the apocolypse everytime they blinked...ergo, he was allowed to fire at will.

MANY times in my life I've realized that I wasn't the person for a certain job and asked to have someone more suitable to replace me. There is honor in it AND it shows the kind of perception that gets rewarded in the long run. I have no idea how old you are, but your life experience may not have yet put you in this spot. If you are sharp and good at whatever field you are in or will be in, IT WILL HAPPEN. That's life. Some folks never see it and are hamstrung by the blindspot. Others increase their stature by "calling the ball"

Anyone saying that Nick Stevens should start should just be quiet. We all know Kiffin's answer. I don't think he cares what some message board posting troll thinks. Also, if Nick is so great, why didn't he turn things around last year. I know, he was too busy throwing picks against Wyoming. By the way, I think both of them suck so i don't care who plays.

The fans that were heckling Crompton's family should be excommunicated from the Vol family. They deserve to root for a team that goes 0-12. Those guys are just kids, even if they aren't very good. If we boo and tell them they suck, that will surely help their confidence. That also will sound good to any recruits we have in attendance. "Wow mom and dad, i want to go to Tennessee where their fans will boo me and say i suck if i screw up."

With all that said, GO VOLS, RUN RUN RUN, and beat Auburn.

These other folks seem to be awake. It is those who've made a decision and closed their minds that are "asleep". It seems to bother some of you if someone acknowledges any problem other than JC. Most of what I've seen here are folks who've given him a little credit for the things he did well, criticized other players for their failures, and criticized Crompton for his.

Some of you guys will argue with anything less than "Crompton is the worst QB who ever played".
 
Let's not forget that CPF was recruiting for a different offense, not Kiffin's. Coleman and Boyd could be in that cupboard if Kiffin wanted. Both, in my opinion, are better than Crompton. Kiffin wouldn't play Vick if he didn't fit the system. IMO, he is playing Crompton and sitting NS for recruiting purposes. A "sufficient" NS may keep a QB from signing if he thought he might not start as a freshman.

How is Boyd doing so far? Coleman is a quitter. He could have competed for the job next year or the year after but he left for UTC.

I find it hard to measure up to either of ya'lls astute observations detailed in your magnanimous support of our qb. I digress and will hence forth attempt to relegate myself to such heady responses as a choppy hand smiley face and triage my replies and avoid cerberal threads and entirely avoid any discussions about antidisestabishmentarianism.
 
ANYONE who blames Kiffin for Coleman quitting is delusional or an idiot. HE QUIT. Kiffin didn't tell him to or make him do it. All Kiffin did as far as either side reported was refuse to give BJ guarantees.
 
Anyone want to still say that BJ Coleman got a fair shake? This just proves that Lane never gave the kid a fair shake, Crompton is beyond awful. No way Stephens or Coleman could have been this bad.

The best I can see after reading what came out from both sides and a few others supposedly in the know is that Coleman went to CLK looking for some kind of guarantee or commitment. I'm not sure if he asked for the starting job, guaranteed reps with the 1st team, the job in the future, etc... but both he and CLK made comments suggesting he wanted a guarantee beyond simply being told that he could compete for the job.

They apparently had words over the issue then BJ went a cried to the press even before UT understood that he had made a final decision to leave.
 
No. What/Who are you referring to? Those who attack a kid "personally" because they don't like the way he plays?
