Never in my life have I ever quit anything. I did'nt say quit. I said, very clearly, that part of being good at what one does is knowing when one is NOT performing and being man enough to see it. Call it a self imposed sebbatical.
 
I feel sorry for Nick, but Kiff is more stupidly hard headed about this than Coach Fulmer was. All the great recruiting in the world will not do when you don't let your backup even have a shot. Kiff is the guy that says the playing field is level for competition, but he will not give the backup a try when the starter predictably chokes.

There is something wrong with Crompton's depth perception. Every throw is high, hot and late. I can't imagine how demoralizing his mistakes are since the whole team must expect them, especially when the pressure mounts.

Poor kid but, WAKE UP KIFFEN!!!
 
I dont know how saying crompton sucks is attacking him personally. I think the people who say this, myself included, are saying his performance sucks, not every aspect of his life.

Agreed. Neither you or I know Crompton in his personal life so why would we be commenting about that when we say "he sucks" ?? We wouldn't be. A person who takes anyone on this message board saying "Crompton sucks" in any other way than us criticizing his football performance is extremely self-righteous or very naive. Everyone here knows that when I say "Crompton sucks," and he does, that I'm talking about his performance on a football field.
 
crompton's a great guy and a pretty good Qb. he agreed to try out for my flag football team. i think he's got the third string Qb spot locked down. it's not official though we are planning to bring in nepoleon dynamite next week for a tryout so crompton may have to move to reciever. lol:):):):):)
 
3 things I want to add to this discussion.

1) Crompton is awful. I concur. But he will continue to progress during the course of this season as a result of keeping him in. This is what our coach last year failed to understand. Yanking a guy out and putting another in doesn't help either guy. There is absolutely no way to simulate a game in practice. Your biggest progressions as a QB will come on the field. He has to make the mistakes to learn from them. Will he ever be an excellent starting QB? No. But he will be good enough to win us the games we are supposed to win. That's all you can ask for this season anyway.

2) The same people clamoring for Nick Stephens to start are the same idiots that were calling for Crompton whenever Ainge threw a bad pass. Continue to post this nonsense if it makes you feel better, but don't expect your rant to change the fact that Crompton is the guy and will be the guy barring injury.

3) Nick Stephens may not be the future of this football team. Kiffin could have a plan in place for next year that will see Nick Stephens continue to stand on the sidelines. This is a guy that can't beat out the worst QB that's ever started for Tennessee, guys. It's not like he's an All-SEC player that the coaches are too boneheaded to play.

Get over it. Asking a kid to resign ,do the honorable thing , or commit ritual suicide is just wrong. He is a young man with the weight of the world on his back and a bunch of armchair qbs are piling on. Trust CLK bottom line.
 
I know that NS and JC are not good qbs, but everyone says just look at what NS did against Wyoming. Has JC gone a game without a pick? UAB sucked just as bad as Wyoming. 4 turnovers against WKU who is worse than Wyoming. Its like saying, its ok for JC to have 12 bad games but NC can only have 1 or 2.
 
Can't wait for the off season. Much more interesting on the board.

As most of you know, we are never satisified. My only question is, If both are so bad, why not let both play? I would just like to see someone else in the QB position. Simply because, JC is not getting it done. We will be 0 for Alabama in October if this continues status quo!
 
I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.
I bet your flag football team is undefeated.
 
Can we not discuss something other than continually bashing Crompton? He is far from great, but he is our quarterback.......there is a reason Stephens is #2, so let's all get over with it, and quit all these Crompton hate posts, please!

While you were thinking so ponderously, did it ever cross your mind that the coaching staff has Crompton at quaterback because he is the best we have?

If Crompton is our best QB, we, for damned sure, don't want the second best getting close to the field.

Just a note, a couple of excellent throws from Crompton were bungled Saturday night by the receivers.
 
I don't understand why people are bashing him for THIS game, not overall. People are bashing him for his play in THIS game, and to me it seems like he played a decent game.

He did. Decent, except for the fumble and a couple of times I think he should have run the ball.
 
I'd give anything if someone could figure out what makes JC short circuit like he does. He's capable, he's at least as good as we saw against WKY. But something happens to him and it produces what we saw Saturday. That's a shame.
 
CLK is NOT going to change qbs, and I trust that he knows way better than any of us that it would not be any better putting NS in. Like I have heard many times, and I agree with, if you put NS in the game, you can't go back to JC, and you are stuck with NS the rest of the season regardless of how bad he may be. At that point you may as well give JC a clip board and headset because he will be on the sidelines for the rest of the year, and then we have NO qb at all. Remember, CLK was a qb in college so he knows more than probably most on this messageboard about the psychological part of being a qb, or whatever. We just all need to support jc, and trust our head coach is doing the right thing. After all, he wasn't left with much to work with.
 
It almost seems like JC does better when he doesn't have time to really think about the play and just use his natural instincts(not sure if this is the right words), but when he has time to think is when he usually doesn't make as good of decisions. Just like the hurry up drill right before halftime, which I thought JC did a good job of getting us in field goal position.
