The eternal QB debate (merged)

Ok, well why are we throwing out his worst game (UCLA) but not his best game (WKU), when his best game came against one of the worst teams in the nation, and his worst game was against a middle of the road Pac-10 team?

You may want to re-check your stats...

UCLA stats:
Rushing Defense: T-9th in NCAA, 2nd in Pac-10 (74.33)
Pass Effiency Defense: 4th in NCAA, 1st in Pac-10 (82.23)
Total Defense: 15th in NCAA, 3rd in Pac-10 (251.00)
Scoring Defense: 12th in NCAA, 3rd in Pac-10 (12.67)

Is it the "pornstache"?

I had the same theory, but the 'stache was gone on Saturday and the bashing persisted.

Personally, I attribute it to the the mental G forces involved in watching him make a great pass into the perfect tight spot for a touchdown on one play, and then watching him play like a pee wee football QB on the next. Your mind gets dizzy and just throws up...

I don't blame Crompton more than Kiffin. I think the offensive gameplan was backwards in that what we did in the second half we should've done in the first half. We're now going into the fifth game and while it may be true or not that Crompton is making progress, the wide-outs are not. That is something that gets corrected during the week and is a direct result of coaching. I think the O-Line is making progress, even with all the injuries, but I can't say the same for the QB and WR's. If the WR's and the QB aren't on the same page by now, I think Kiffin has to take his fair share of the blame.

Tennessee doesn't match up well with Carolina? They have no running game and no depth on defense. Kind of sounds like tennessee , only in reverse. Should have as good a shot at them as Auburn and Georgia.

Cant hurt those stats that they faced us and we were afraid to pass by early 3Q.

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.

WOW...This is way I think these forums are so funny. You have people like this that doesn't have any football sense nor any clue what's going on our team. They just get on here and ramble and ramble.

How much time do you spend at practice? Obviously, Stephens isn't any better than Crompton or at least he hasn't shown it during practice, or Kiffin would be playing him. So, what do u want Kiffin to do? Just throw someone in there just for the H#$L of it and hope that its gets better or stay with someone that your starting to get a feel on what plays to call based on what he can handle the reads that he can and can't make. Why don't you blame Fulmer for recruiting this guy and the lack of recruiting for the entire team. The better the feel that Kiffin gets with Crompton the better the offense will run based on calling the right plays (by not putting to much on JC) and mixing in the wildcat.

I have the ESPN gameplan this year and I have watched alot of college football and I have yet to see a QB as bad as Crompton in D1 football. I am a diehard UT fan and it is really disappointing for me to see him play so bad. Watching the UT/Ohio game, I was actually jealous of their QB play. That guy made some pretty good throws on a MUCH better Defense. I am sorry to pile it on, but it really hurts when terrible teams have great QB's and we are stuck with this guy. I mean i literally drool when I watch Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, or Jacory Harris play, granted neither had a good game on Saturday, but every game Crompton plays is as bad as those every week other than WKU. Has anyone on here seen worse QB play this year than Crompton?

No. Crompton is the worst QB in the nation.

The worst QB is Crompton and its not even close. The kid is terrible and is getting worse every week. I actually dread when our offense has the ball now on account of Crompton doing something stupid.

There are definitely serious issues with the receiving corps as well. CLK has been harping on this and it's legitimate. The routes don't look sharp at all. The problem is that while 10 incompletions might have been the receivers fault Crompton's 'bad' plays easily could have cost UT the game. That fumble and the numerous times he threw inexplicably to guys that were blanketed were game changers that Ohio couldn't capitalize on.

Also, in the UCLA game 2 of his interceptions were partially the receiver's fault. Stocker ran a bad route and Moore faded away from the pass as it was thrown. But regardless, they were both covered and the passes never should have been thrown. The bad route turned a dangerous incompletion into an interception. Crompton's decision making puts more pressure on the receiving corps to run sharp routes because the ball is coming whether you're open or not.

No but I thought Jevan Snead -Ole Miss QB looked over-rated to me in that Gamecock game. Let's face it, Crompton is bad, Stephens is not much better and the JUCO we have must not be that good either and too many are banking on this skinny kid from California Bray but too expect him to save the day is a bit much especially how skinny he is. As I keep saying, sign Teddy Bridgewater 2011 class and our struggles will be over with and as far as 2010 class I rather have Jeffrey Godfrey from Miami. He is a winner too! Remember, most of these Florida HS kids play against college level competition and are ready to play as soon as they enter college like a Tebow, Nu'kese, Richardson at Bama, Odom at Michigan on and on and on!

Has anyone thought for a second that the pressure Crompton feels is not caused by the defense he is against but our fans? How would you like to be under a 100,000 person microscope each week, knowing if you do not play perfect you will be getting booed, people on message boards blasting your every move. Is it too hard to fathom that perhaps he does so well in practice is there are no boo birds around?

It is so easy to sit in your chair and call someone names and critique their ever move, how would you like to have has many critics and bosses overlooking you everyday that JC has. No matter what time they arrive from a road game JC is at church the next day, he loves being a VOL, is it too much to ask that the fans support him next week against the Tigers and take some pressure off of him.

If Crompton can't take the heat, then why on earth is he in the kitchen?

Based on this data, I don't understand all of the negative Crompton comments. Look at the stats of GA, KY, AR, MS St, Vandy, MS, Miami, VT, Penn St, IA... they're all worse! And most of the other teams aren't much better. I checked a few competitor sites (whose QB stats were worse) and they don't seem to be bashing their QB. Granted, Crompton had a very bad game against UCLA, but he had a good game against WKY and reasonable games against FL and OH. So again... why all the negative posts? I am sure there are those who will want to bring up last year. Well, that was last year... get over it... different coaches, different blocking schemes, different offensive system. Maybe our coaches ARE making progress? Why not at least give them AND Crompton a chance during his senior season? Many posters have stated that his biggest problem is a confidence issue. If you were a QB being booed by your fans, and possibly read all of these negative posts about you, wouldn't that impact your own confidence? Think about it... be honest... and you'll agree. It honestly seems like the "popular" thing to do is to bash Crompton, whether he deserves it or not. Members read the posts of others and just jump on board... what a bunch of conformists. The way I see it... those who continue to sling the insults, which contributes to his lack of confidence, are contributing to the problem.

So, my challenge to VolNation is to stop the bashing until the stats actually show a poor performance... and if they do, you won't here a peep from me. But how about encouraging the guy for the AU and GA games and see what happens?

Come on man it was ohio
