Based on this data, I don't understand all of the negative Crompton comments. Look at the stats of GA, KY, AR, MS St, Vandy, MS, Miami, VT, Penn St, IA... they're all worse! And most of the other teams aren't much better. I checked a few competitor sites (whose QB stats were worse) and they don't seem to be bashing their QB. Granted, Crompton had a very bad game against UCLA, but he had a good game against WKY and reasonable games against FL and OH. So again... why all the negative posts? I am sure there are those who will want to bring up last year. Well, that was last year... get over it... different coaches, different blocking schemes, different offensive system. Maybe our coaches ARE making progress? Why not at least give them AND Crompton a chance during his senior season? Many posters have stated that his biggest problem is a confidence issue. If you were a QB being booed by your fans, and possibly read all of these negative posts about you, wouldn't that impact your own confidence? Think about it... be honest... and you'll agree. It honestly seems like the "popular" thing to do is to bash Crompton, whether he deserves it or not. Members read the posts of others and just jump on board... what a bunch of conformists. The way I see it... those who continue to sling the insults, which contributes to his lack of confidence, are contributing to the problem.

So, my challenge to VolNation is to stop the bashing until the stats actually show a poor performance... and if they do, you won't here a peep from me. But how about encouraging the guy for the AU and GA games and see what happens?

you have to be kidding right

TnVols47 just stop with your save the Volnation message board stuff. People get on message boards to vent all the time...it's not going to change...

2009 FBS (Division I-A) College Football Individual Statistics Leaders for Passing - ESPN

heres your stats you keep requesting.. 88/116.. only ahead of 2 other teams in SEC (MsSt, Van).. :good!:

Great stats. Thanks. So Crompton is better than 28 other QB's in the FBS (which include 2 from the SEC as you mentioned) and only marginally behind KY, SC, and MS. If you discount the UCLA game as an outlier (which is based on the laws of statistics), then Crompton's performance would be even better since the rating for the UCLA game was well below his other games this year, which I stated in my original post. Again, I am NOT trying to say that Crompton is a good QB that will somehow miraculously lead us to the SECCG... that is not and has not been my point. I just don't understand all the hateful comments that (outside of the UCLA game) have not been warranted this year.

I have vented and bashed all I am going to, I am going to take the approach of: "Yeah we are not that strong at QB this year but next year we will see some improvement" We have 1 committment at QB and possibly will get another and will build from that. It is not like the former regime left all this great talent at the QB, OL and receiver position.

I say we let Hardesty play QB. He cant be any worse than the two we have. There both beyond horrible. Atleast Hardesty and Brown could both be on the field at the same time and i would put money on it either one of them throws the ball better than crompton or stephens ha ha.

Ok, well why are we throwing out his worst game (UCLA) but not his best game (WKU), when his best game came against one of the worst teams in the nation, and his worst game was against a middle of the road Pac-10 team?

I'm just not sure I understand everything I know about this post..dang my head is starting to hurt.

Monte made in game adjustments (something not seen in decades on the D side) and it resulted in a pick 6

Good read... thanks for posting. I'll be surprised if you get many responses, however, because the fans that just want to blame Crompton for everything seem to be impervious to logic and data.

I think you are right, Griff. For every good throw there is one bad decision. For every WR drop there is a bad read or a bad miss of a wide open receiver. I do think the coaches wished for nothing more than having BJ or Nick clearly win the earlier QB competition. Maybe we should all just blame Nick for not pulling it out sooner.

I don't think it is unreasonable for fans to hope that Nick gets his shot this year. It is all part of the psychological approach Kiffin takes. It is his team. He was left with a patchwork OL, so he deserves to coach it as he sees fit. It is what it is.

Even though the stats have favored the d over the years, its hard to overlook their inability to get off the field on 3rd down. This year is looking similar.

With that in mind, coupled with poor qb play, I'm struggling to find more than 5 wins out of this team. UCLA was the swing game like so many said.

It is definitely what it is. Hopefully better days are approaching. But, just like when you are on top and can't see yourself falling, its just as hard to see yourself ever rising from the bottom, too.

The only two games he has thrown in and had any measure of success was against two teams he should have lit up for 300 yards passing and 3 touchdowns easy. The other two games he has been specifically limited by the coaches to avoid hurting his team. EDIT: I take that back he wasn't limited against UCLA and was victimized repeatedly.

That isn't a great argument for why he shouldn't be criticized, when a coach has to game plan to keep you from passing the ball and hurting the team I think criticism is still warranted.

Just go take a peak at the recruiting class being assembled. If that doesn't cheer you up, then not sure what will...related to Tennessee football.
