The eternal QB debate (merged)

I'm obviously beaten down and late to the party. I think I've modded one too many crappy threads. :)

They all run together. I dropped a few of those bombs last night, and forgot where I dropped them.

CLK is doing everything he can do, with what he has.
I hope we run it about 60 times this week.

1. Is Crompton arrogant in thinking that he really isn't that bad?

Honestly, I don't blame Crompton for how he is handling things. If my starting QB is playing poorly, I actually WANT him to be in a state of denial and believe he can still make the plays. How do you get mad at a guy for playing poorly when he's clearly going out and doing the best he can; especially when he's the best you've got?

Good luck getting an answer to that. There is no way JC is a real UT fan, he would take himself out. This ain't "Remember the Titans" - "Put Petey in coach, hes better."

Think about this for a second: it seems like half of our starters have been injured already this year, but Crompton remains some kind of ironman. Ainge, who could actually win you a couple games here and there, was injured every year. Crompton, who has lost us numerous games THIS YEAR ALONE, wouldnt get injured if you threw a running chainsaw at him

+1 I totally agree

So he lost the UF game too?

Ok

Well lets see.........hum...well lets bench Crompton and put Stephens in for a couple of games......too bad Coleman left, cause if Stephens couldnt do it, We could always try BJ. If that dont work we still got Crompton. Wait we tried that last year and went 5 and 7......Duh!!

I know you didn't. But he is the one that is deciding who plays, (which he has choosen JC)and what he is allowed to do as far as pass attempts. I have no problem with the decision to play JC. We do not have a clear cut stand out at the position. I just wonder why JC is the only goat and nobdy calls out CLK on it. Its his decision, not JCs.

Great question BeecherVol, and something I would like to see more of as well. If fans are tired of seeing JC play then take it out on CLK and not JC... he's just trying to do what he's being asked to do.

Well, if having the 91st ranked QB is your idea of a good QB, then your bar isn't set very high. I've looked at your "stats" and gone back and compiled the national ranking for the same schools that you feel are in the same company of our beloved JC. Beside each school is the QB's passing efficiency ranking at the end of Game 4.

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_playerpasseff&site=org&div=IA&dest=O

Crompton 91
UGA 23
UF 7
UK 79
Ark 30
Bama 3
Auburn 6
LSU 43
Ole Miss 65
SC 78
Miami 24
VT 71
USF 12
PSU 54
Ok St 21
Mizzu 9
OSU 57
BYU 25

Aside from Vandy, every school we face the rest of the way has a QB light years ahead of JC in passing efficiency.

Decided not to read the whole post, huh? The OP mentioned he had a bad game against UCLA. He was talking exclusively about the Ohio game. But no you're right, lets continue bashing this 22 year old who is (despite some morons on here) going to be our QB for the rest of the year... :good!:
I dont think that saying that a QB's only good games are against crap teams can be constituted as bashing.

Part of it stems from JC being a team captain. It's hard to bench a senior captain who seems to be a good team leader (at least in the locker room). CLK pulls that trigger on that and he risks losing the team in an emotional sense for the rest of the season. If I had to bet I would guess CLK at this point fully understands the limitations of JC and is going to do everything he can to hide them for the rest of the year (much like Fulmer did against Vandy and UK last year). If JC goes out and throws 3 INTs in a half and CLK doesn't pull him, I will criticize the coach (but still won't call for a firing)

This is what you're going with... really? That must be some new hi-def TV you have to be able to see the look on Crompton's face... or were you able to see if from your seats with your super-vison?
Really, you're telling me you have'nt seen the "deer in the headlights" look? Wow. Do you watch the games? I'm at the home games (except last Sat because of a prior engagement....bought it though) and I see it everytime I see his face

Please go back and read my original post. I never called JC a good QB, nor did I try to "establish a bar". I said he had a good game against WKY, and reasonable games against FL and OH. Also, these are not my "stats", nor are the schools that were listed chosen because I felt they were the best comparisons. The stats came out of the sports section of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the teams were the only ones they had stats for. JC's ranking, based on the ESPN link provided by an earlier poster, is currently 88 out of 116 schools. The point I was trying to make is quite simple... based on JC's performance against UCLA I can certainly understand all the negativity. However, I don't think it is warranted for the other 3 games.

And how many times do you see his face when the game is being played? So what you're suggesting is that the networks, instead of broadcasting the field of play while a play is occurring, instead are showing a close up of JC's face. Again, your TV must provide different angles and views than mine because I have never seen that happen.

My apologies, as my previous post was not accurate as you're suggesting you can see his face from your seats in the stadium... everytime!!! Those must be some great seats that afford you that kind of visibility on every single play. How do you make that work when they change directions each quarter?

Wow,that was deep.
