The eternal QB debate (merged)

I Am getting sick of UT fans bashing Cromption especially you a-holes yelling everytime there is an incompletion. He is a kid for God's sake! you think he wants to lose?

ANd you the loud mouth sitting in section V row 39 seat 27. He threw the ball away several times because our AWFUL recievers could not get open. And when a screen is called and the MLB covers the RB, a Qb can not throw it down feild without a flag being thrown.

And the drops..oh my God. I give Brown a mulligan, he is a freshman and took his eye off the ball. But Warren and Jones...come on. Crompton needs all the help he can get.

Crompton might very well be the worst QB to play at TN but he does not have much help. He can thank Fulmer for it. When you have walk-on OLM and a TE playing OT, and very little talent in the R corps, what do you expect? There has never been a Tennessee Qb that had so little talent around him.

I saw Crompton force 2 or 3 throws Saturday night, had 2 sail on him. other than that he played a pretty good game. And throwing the ball away is a good thing on 3rd and mile if nothing is open when you have the lead. Yea he should have thrown the fumble away and had opportunity but if he would have you would have yelled about that too!!!

Try taking your head out of your rectum and learning a little football before opening your mouth!

I am pretty sure that guy posts here since the same stupid comment is made all the time

Crompton bleeds orange. He has devoted more of his life, heart, and energy to this program than most of us can even imagine. HE LOVES TENNESSEE. He had an opportunity to go elsewhere and many thought he should since UT had recruited Ainge and Schaeffer ahead of him... but he wanted to be a Vol. Many thought he should transfer when, like Stephens, an underachieving Ainge was given the nod over him. Even more people thought he should leave when it became a not so well kept secret that Cut despised him. He kept trying because he wanted to be a Vol.

Through all of this plus the vitriol of fans, boos in his home stadium, scathing criticism in the media, vandalism against his property, and even death threats... all Jonathan Crompton wanted was to be a Vol.

Anyone who doesn't respect this whether the kid ever plays well again.... isn't a Tennessee fan.

The throws into coverage don't bother me nearly as much as the fumble that almost turned into a TD, the sack that he took that almost knocked us out of FG range and the 3rd down play that he busted when he went the wrong way. None of those plays show up on a stat sheet, but they will sure enough get you beat.

I'll give you a little credit here. The fumble/sack occurred because he was trying to make a play. Maybe a little bad judgement.. agreed, but give him a little credit. But since you are so quick to condemn that particular play, why are you not asking coach O where the blocking was? 3 guys hit him there. The sack that took us out of FG range... good grief... cut the man a little slack. the O line.. again.. opened like the Red Sea. What else could he have done? Busted play... crap happens.. .put away your microscope for a minute, and look at the game as a whole... (please.. without the "but it was Ohio").. and notice that his passes were actually pretty good. If he has to stare down a receiver, then so be it. I will never say he is an NFL caliber QB.. but if he and coach K can identify his strengths and weaknesses.. and scheme for them.. what's the problem? GO VOLS... all of 'em

We all know we need better QB/receiver play but some of us are not going to continue bashing the guy who was chosen by the coach to be the starter. Until CLK decides a change is in order we will support the real coach who watches them in practice and feels he has the best QB playing for us to win.

Well, if having the 91st ranked QB is your idea of a good QB, then your bar isn't set very high. I've looked at your "stats" and gone back and compiled the national ranking for the same schools that you feel are in the same company of our beloved JC. Beside each school is the QB's passing efficiency ranking at the end of Game 4.

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_playerpasseff&site=org&div=IA&dest=O

Crompton 91
UGA 23
UF 7
UK 79
Ark 30
Bama 3
Auburn 6
LSU 43
Ole Miss 65
SC 78
Miami 24
VT 71
USF 12
PSU 54
Ok St 21
Mizzu 9
OSU 57
BYU 25

Aside from Vandy, every school we face the rest of the way has a QB light years ahead of JC in passing efficiency.

Unfortunately, none of those other QB's are options for us. The only other option we have has a career ranking lower than Crompton.

It's not like I'm bringing up old stuff... I wouldn't have "bashed" him the rest of the season had he just continued to play and not have a UCLAesk game... But noooooo he has to open his mouth and say this recent series a ridiculous statements.

Also, PJ I urged you watch that play again... (www.secdigitalnetwork.com) the ball was thrown out of bounds. What do you say about the 3rd down miss to Moore that I made mention to? Or what about the 3rd down throw into the stands on the 2nd to last play of the game. If you'll re watch that you see he had a blocker on the left and only one defender 25 yards down field... He could have easily ran for the 1st down and probably more. But he throws it into the stands on a 3rd and 12 (I think) with an upcoming 4th down for the game.... But I'm gonna guess he did the right thing right? And you might be right if it were 2nd in 10 in the 2nd QTR in a tie game, but it wasn't. Again he shows NO desire to win. See the last 4 plays of the ucla game too...

Well utvolpj? What about the 3rd down screw up? How was the Moore's fault?

Ya know what's really sad? the fact that this thread has 6 pages.

Agree... but at least the most recent posts have disagreed with the title of the thread. Any true Vol fan (i.e. the OP of this post) would go back and change the title.

I feel bad knocking a fellow human being so badly but he isn't. A real fan would request to sit on the bench or leave the team. He isn't doing any good for the team. This really does sound horrible but it's true. He is being selfish by putting himself on the field.

Watching him play makes me want to vomit. I've given him the benefit of the doubt over and over again but this is too much. He is single handedly keeping Ohio in the game.

That's got to be one of the dumbest posts ever. A true fan would ask to be benched? Come on, are you serious?

I am wondering also. I always though Al Davis was a senile fool but continuing to play Crompton is the closest I've seen Kiffin coming to sinking this ship. Could sink fast because Crompton is horrible.

Also, anyone who thinks I'm over exaggerating and being too harsh.... I started a post after the WKU game wondering if Crompton could get in the heisman race by seasons end.

Like I said, I was on Crompton's side and thought this staff may right the ship but he is horrible.

After one week you are tready to give him the Heisman. After 3 more weeks, you think he should quit. Sounds to me as though you are extermely volatile in your views. It's feast or famine.

Did you take your Prozac this morning?

Fulmer - Crompton > Stephens
Kiffin - Crompton > Stephens
some fans - Stephens > Crompton

i think i'll go with the coaches opinion. i think it’s pathetic that Crompton gets booed on the first play of the game against Ohio, regardless if he over threw the receiver or not. If you haven't noticed neither Fulmer nor Kiffin think that Stephens is better than Crompton so, let’s move past this, cheer for our QB and hopefully he will get some confidence back.

If Kiffin pulls Crompton, and the O is just as pathetic than what's the common denominator? HIM. Right now Crompton is taking all the blame for HIS incapable offense. If the next guy performs just as bad or worse than the finger will be pointed at Lane and he does not want that.

Absolutely correct. I'm thinking Pearl might just be a Bammer troll.. or only 15 years old... either way, just immature in his thoughts. :dance2:

I agree with the fact that whether we like it or not he is our QB, so boo all you want at your HOUSE, but if you are in Neyland Stadium don't boo the kid. First of all i can guarentee you that coach kiffin will NOT change QB's due to the fact fans boo him, so the only thing you are doing is rattling your own QB at his home field. So what kind of home field advantage is that? Mutter under your breath i don't care, but don't blatanly try to rattle him, during a game just be a true fan and deal with it.

this is seriously the worst thread ive seen on this site BY FAR. saying kiffin needs to grow a pair and calling for his head... this is no vol fan i know. he is dealing with what fulmer left him... nothing. NS is no better a choice than crompton and if you think he and the receivers are on the wrong page then just wait til a new qb comes in with little reps in practice with said receivers and see how much worse this offense gets. NS can only throw a good deep ball and he's not even consistent with that or we would have won more than 5 games last year when he took over. furthermore, the wildcat formation is a gimmick that works maybe twice a game unless its a major part of the offense... so guru do us a favor and keep your opinions to yourself.

Well said...Guru is a friggin' idiot. We are all a little bit-o wait-A LOT dumber after reading his posts. What a waste of time. Hey Guru, go jump on Florida's bandwagon, we dont need ya here!

Wrong. The previous/fired staff left us with nothing at the QB position. Now if he gets his players and then cannot produce then you might have a point.

For all of you guys who think you are better than Crompton, not that I"m defending him, because he hasn't been good, Why don't you enroll at UT, walk-in to the team, and see if you can do better. If you can, then you are better than crompton, if you can't, quit your B******, and stop crying. Support your team don't tear them down. If they get back to the top of the heap, don't act as if you helped them.

This whole bashing crompton thing week in and week out is getting old, move on......UT football is not where it was in the 90s and early 2000s. This is the state of UT football, middle to lower SEC school. Live with it for now, and hope that Kiffin & Staff can gain some momentum.

I think if as a UT fan, if we weren't so hard on our QBs we could have had Lil Clausen, but since we treated his brothers so bad we missed out on him. AND I DON"T LIKE LIL CLAUSEN either. Just think about that while you are bashing out current QB situation, because recruits maybe reading some of this stuff. Instead of tearing down, try building up, or not saying anything at all.
