The eternal QB debate (merged)

For all of you guys who think you are better than Crompton, not that I"m defending him, because he hasn't been good, Why don't you enroll at UT, walk-in to the team, and see if you can do better. If you can, then you are better than crompton, if you can't, quit your B******, and stop crying. Support your team don't tear them down. If they get back to the top of the heap, don't act as if you helped them.

I would, but I gotta see more of the world than just Knoxville. No really, I would try out, given the opportunity to walk on.

For all of you guys who think you are better than Crompton
Not sure that I see a single person saying that they are better than JC

I think if as a UT fan, if we weren't so hard on our QBs we could have had Lil Clausen, but since we treated his brothers so bad we missed out on him.
You really think that this is the reason that Jimmy went to ND.

Part of it stems from JC being a team captain. It's hard to bench a senior captain who seems to be a good team leader (at least in the locker room).

At least in the locker room? :eek:lol:How exactly is Crompton being a good team leader in the locker room? What's our team's record in the locker room, and can we throw a pass further than 10 yards in the locker room without it being intercepted?

He's a good leader in the locker room. That's classic stuff right there.

I'll give you a little credit here. The fumble/sack occurred because he was trying to make a play. Maybe a little bad judgement.. agreed, but give him a little credit. But since you are so quick to condemn that particular play, why are you not asking coach O where the blocking was? 3 guys hit him there. The sack that took us out of FG range... good grief... cut the man a little slack. the O line.. again.. opened like the Red Sea. What else could he have done? Busted play... crap happens.. .put away your microscope for a minute, and look at the game as a whole... (please.. without the "but it was Ohio").. and notice that his passes were actually pretty good. If he has to stare down a receiver, then so be it. I will never say he is an NFL caliber QB.. but if he and coach K can identify his strengths and weaknesses.. and scheme for them.. what's the problem? GO VOLS... all of 'em

His passes were not pretty good. He had one interception. He hit defensive players squarely in the numbers on two other plays, but they dropped them. He missed high on a number of passes, including a wide open receiver on a deep pass that would have scored a touchdown. He also threw behind receivers on a couple of occasions. Finally, he had the fumble that would have placed a game against OHIO in doubt in the fourth quarter were it not for Ohio's player being an absolute moron. Those of you that claim that Crompton played well are either delusional or legally blind.

The problem is that Crompton has few if any strengths and he has many weaknesses the greatest of which is the empty void between his ears.

Unfortunately, none of those other QB's are options for us. The only other option we have has a career ranking lower than Crompton.

Since Stephens' QB rating was higher than Crompton's last year, and Stephens' QB rating is MUCH higher than Crompton's QB rating this year, I'm just trying to figure out exactly who you think UT's "only other option" is.

If you have a problem with the QB take it up with the coach. Bashing a guy online and booing him on the field is classless. If your coach says your my starter then you go in and do the best you can do. I guess that is too hard for you to comprehend. Like I said you have a problem with the QB take it up with the coach and not the player or his family.

I am not in either camp of the 2 QB's we have to use, but I be damned if I am going to stoop to the low classless, opinionated adolescent behavior that I am seeing filling up this site daily.

Nothing I want more to see is a QB that can manage the offense, limit mistakes and complete passes. The only one who decides this is CLK and to this point everything the man said he was going to do he has. We have lots of freshmen on the field which will pay dividends next year. We have had no off field incidents since his arrival, our team competes hard and plays physical from beginning of the game to the end.

Take your QB issue up with the coach, and not out on the player who is doing what the coach says, show some class that is if you have any.

Very well stated. My sentiments exactly.

Interesting that you took two posts to respond to my one, but that's OK. You hate Crompton, and in your humble opinion he is completely to blame for all the woes of the VOLS. I get it. I think everybody that feels like you is myopic. You call those of us that support JC blind. Classy. You even call the Ohio player that happened to be standing out of bounds in the heat of battle a moron. I guess everything you do is either in slow motion, of you ALWAYS have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. Must be nice. I'll give you the last word, but I can easily guess what it will be. I won't waste my time reading your response. Have a great UT day. GO VOLS... all of 'em.

I've never said a word to the QB, the QB's family or the coach, but I'll say whatever I want to and there is not ONE THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. This is a message board, and I'm entitled to state my opinion just as you are entitled to state yours. The post that you responded to was actually a statement of fact not opinion.

Nice straw man argument. Did you learn that from Griff? I have never once said that all of UT's problems are Crompton's fault. You accuse me of combining two posts, and then you how the nerve to accuse me of stating that all of UT's problems are due to Crompton. How ironic. UT has many problems, but Crompton is the largest of them, and a change to Stephens is needed.

Stephens has played in two seasons. He played a lot more last year than this year (so far). Both last year and this year Stephen's QB rating is higher than Crompton's. The person to which I was responding said that Crompton had a higher QB rating. That is not true.

OK... you never actually SAID it, but your posts certainly make it clear where your feelings lie. Personally I couldn't care less how you feel. The vitriol toward Cropmton in your posts is clear. And you DID in fact take 2 posts to respond to my one.. but nevermind. So.. in your opinion coach... changing to Nick will solve the quarterback problem? And you are basing this strategy on what intel? Have you seen the 2 of them in practice? I know your type. You are the whiny why-can't-we-win them all fair weather fan. And when things go south, you have to blame someone.. nevermind that there is really no one to blame.. but you can't handle that. So JC is convenient for your purpose. Yet again.. very sad.... for you. Oh, and I fail to see the irony of which you speak.
