The Fishing Thread

Just got back from Kentucky Lake. Awful! The day started off horible with battery and motor troubles and never got better. The water was up real high, and we tried flipping jigs and throwing worms up in the buck brush and trees, but caught nothing. Then we tried fishing rock and gravel, throwing shad raps and rattletraps and didn't get a bite.

Don't bother chasing them in the bushes is what I've been told.

6 to 8 ft of water is where the people I've talked to are catching bass. Says they are in between bedding and wintering.

I haven't been bass fishing yet this year.

Yeah we found that out. Hopefully we can get on them next weekend

Old Hickory Lake
Surface temp- 60 degrees
Water clarity- stained

Ran Cedar Creek today. Fish moving shallow now, not a huge move but there are fish getting into the shallows. Isolated wood cover was the pattern for the day. Fish it slow and if it's near a creek channel all the better.

They liked a lizard today. Best 5 around 13 pounds.

Caught two small mouth this morning. One was 3.1lbs. Got to the ramp at 6 and couldn't put the boat in till 8 because TBF had a tourney and I waited for 105 boats to put in due to respect.

I bet this cold front will hurt the shallow bite....Man im ready for some consistantly warm weather

Yeah it will slow it down. Good rule of thumb is to just move out to the first drop and slow way down. Jig or lizard right on the bottom at a snails pace. Not my favorite way to fish but you can put together a few decent bites on it usually.

Well I went yesterday evening for about an hour and a half and caught three.(two smallies and a spot) I caught all of them on a small norman crankbait. It really suprised me to see how aggresive they were. Dispite the wind and rain it was a great short trip. I plan on laying in there over the weekend. Cant wait.

Well just got back from my high school bass fishing tournament, the Murray State Open. Dropped a goose egg, me and my partner caught 7 fish all together and 6 of them being 14 inches. Didn't stay for the weigh in, but from what I saw I would be shocked if anyone caught more than 12-15 lbs.

Got out on Percy Priest early this morning. Things started off exciting as first stop we pulled up on a 15 pound catfish had a go at my crankbait, took me 10 minutes to get it to the boat.

Water was trashy and high, although we did find patches of clearer water here and there. Surface temp was 65 most places.

We fished the Fate Sanders bridge area and Stewart creek. Didn't bother to go up to Spring creek as there were some awful big logs in the water.

We fished mainly two baits , square bill cranks and soft plastics. We caught around ten bass in all with a 5 1/4 pound kicker. I'd say we might have ended up with somewhere around 13 pounds being our best 5. The fishing slowed way down and got tough when the sun got high with the wind and boat traffic. They liked the square bill early and started hitting our plastics after it got real bright out.

I saw quite a few bream beds and some bass beds too. Looks like Priest has already had a good wave of spawners this year. Old Hickory is running behind as usual , i'm thinking the full moon this month will be Old Hickory's turn.

Got out on Old Hickory yesterday practicing for a club event next weekend.
Water temp on the surface was 67 in the backs of most creeks. Water had a lot of stain to it. The bite was tough, only a few small male bass and a couple of white bass.
I get the feeling they're moving onto the beds right now and with the stain in the water it's impossible to sight fish them. I hope they've finished up their business by next weekend or i'm going to finish poorly in that event.

Norris temp is staying around 61-63. I have been catching several on a fluke up until about 10:30 in the morning with a few good quality fish. After that I am pounding brush piles with a brush hog(green pumkin) and a 6" lizard(watermelon). Going back to Dale Hollow next week.

Old Hickory is on fire. Went out for 3 hours today and caught fish until i left. I like it when they keep biting. Shallow...... Just get shallow and throw anything that looks like a shad. Oh and hold on to your rod they might take it from you.

Well out of 25 boats we finished 4th, 10.13 ounces, first had 14.12. We were on the fish to win just couldn't make them bite. They were probably sore lipped already.

Now is a good time to get out. The fish are biting a lot of different baits. Go shallow stay shallow and hang on to your rods. They're trying to take them from you right now, bites are violent.

Why were you weighing the bait fish? J/k  Best of luck next tourney.

Yep. I'm gonna take myself a senior skip day one day this week and prolly stick to throwing a rattle trap and may throw some lizards around bushes.

I had one around 4 1/2 to 5 lbs break me off at the boat Saturday on a rattle trap.

We caught plenty of 14 to 18 inch fish and one that weighed right at 6 lbs.
