The general USC debate thread (merged)

This is what I heard from someone out in LA (SC fan):

2 year bowl ban, loss of scholarships and total forfeiture of the 2004 season, including BCS Championship win over OU.

Title remains vacant, much to disdain of Aubies.

2003 season, including the AP Championship remains in tact

I would be very surprised if this was the case

The NCAA can not vacate a BCS championship. The NCAA does not award a national championship in D1 football.

Haha no 'neck of the woods' anymore. You guys will know when I do. It's intarwebz.

You are still missing the point. A real Vols fan would NOT cheer for a slap in the wrist or hope that Dooley fails. Plus rip on Pearl on a constant manner. True Vol fans want to see Kiffin suffer big time, especially the mess he would have got us into with the Infractions Committee. At least the respect will come back.

I do hope Kiffin suffers because honestly I'm a vindictive douche but at least I can acknowledge and accept that. That said what the heck does Kiffin suffering do for our team?

the fact the results haven't been leaked yet make me seriously wonder if this is actually happening tomorrow.

how are they a cash cow for the NCAA?
I've wondered the same thing since I read/hear this argument for a kid glove approach quite often. The bandwagoners accross the nation are going to latch onto whoever's at the top of the sport. It doesn't hurt the NCAA if people are buying Bama hats instead of USC hats. I guess that there is probably some contingent of USC fans in LA who will crawl back into whatever hole they were hiding in throughout most of the 1980s, and 1990s, and stop spending money on college football. But I'm guessing that USC on the skids will probably result in a bump for UCLA and the Arizona schools. I just don't see how it's really going to hurt anyone other than USC if they take a big hit.

USC being down benefits the whole conference. You have to recruit socal to win in the PAC-10.

Recruiting.

Any recruiting advantage UT gains in California from a USC punishment would be minuscule, if not nonexistent. I don't even remember the last time UT signed a CA recruit who had an offer from USC, UCLA, or Cal.

UCLA would be the biggest beneficiary of major probation for USC, easily. It would also help Sarkisian in his quest to rebuild UW.

Cali was not the only place USC recruited.

I'm sure we can think of a couple players who were highly interested in USC and tennessee. Hmmmm.

pretty sure I read where the BCS is on board with vacating pending the NCAA findings, belive it was in the USA today

several people on the Trojan site are saying that the sanctions arent coming out tomorrow. waiting all this time has to suck for them.

All of it smells like back room horse trading with USC and NCAA. Any sanctions they get will hurt some but it would take 20+ scholorships and a multiple year bowl ban to really impact them. One year bowl ban doesn't even effect redshirts and they have the depth to actually redshirt. A couple scholarships a year won't hurt either because they get such high stars. Heck they were ranked over FL this year with significantly less total recruits iirc. The NCAA taking so long us what is laughable. It would have been better to slap them years ago lightly than to waste all this time and to ultimately do little.
