The general USC debate thread (merged)

I kind of agree with that... The whole thing can only be boiled to negligence at worst. This isn't even in the same league with the likes of SMU or Alabama lining recruits pockets with money.

I'm expecting a small-ish number of scholly reductions and a one season bowl ban.

perhaps if bush was the only issue, but there is a history of them looking the other way for years. i think an easy case of lack of institutional control could be made. it's highly likely someone told somoene on staff about the bush payoffs. the only question is they have evidence of that.

Huh?!? Why not?

if you can pay a player to come to your college then just have him pay it back when he goes to the NFL then why not do it with ALL players that show NFL potential, and just say they are going to pay it back when they go pro.

someone above understood exactly what I meant

Bush wasn't alleged to have been paid to play at USC. His parents received benefits during his last year there.

so are you suggesting that once a player commits somewhere that he should be able to be paid to play at that school???

Yeah, thats exactly what I said

I am just pointing out that USC isnt being investigated for giving benefits or paying anything to Bush. Sports agents are the ones who were getting benefits to the Bush family in the hopes that he would sign with them. This had nothing to do with Bush coming to USC, happened two years after the fact. USC is being investigated, aside from the BBall part, of pretty much turning a blind eye to the situation.

After doing some research, I do not think that USC has gotten the report from the NCAA someone on the usc board starting rumors. Imagine that. I guess we want know untill there is an actual press confrence from the NCAA, to many false reports and rumors around.

So, curious, will USC announce that they've received word that the NCAA is about to inform them (after getting the 48 hours warning) or would they most likely just stay quiet till their punishment is announced?

Sound like it could be near, but i am not getting my hopes up again, it should be announced no later than June 10th, 2019.

I'm not sure why the brunt of the NCAA’s penalties would likely fall on the basketball team and not the football team. I'm sure they are just as guilty of recruiting violations if not more so. I would love for them to ineligible for a bowl game and lose some scholarships.

Which is crap as it is? Anyone know what basketball is actually guilty of?

For my 2000th post I would like to say Lane Kiffin sucks, I hope the TroGans get hammered, I hope the 2010 Vols are better than we expect, I hope Dooley does great here and becomes the next legendary coach, and last but not least I hope NEYLAND IS ROCKING again in 2010. GO VOLS!!!

All of these false leaked reporting dates to major networks like espn leads me to believe it will be nothing more than a slap on the wrist. by getting everyone expecting the results just to be let down takes the fire and anger out of everyone and the backlash on the ncaa for going easy won't be as severe. i hope that's not the case but i'm afraid it is and it's going to be sad for college football because cheating will be more rampant than ever.

Ok, please TIFIW which may be nothing... A friend of mine works in HQ of the NCAA. He called me and said the report was done, they would be letting SC know the results today and announcing the findings/penalties tomorrow. Knowing I'm a diehard VOL fan he would just tell me I'd be "happy" and said to look for a postseason ban, vacating of wins, and scholarship reductions. Said they will be the stiffest penalties since Cleveland State. (Don't ask me what those are I don't know). He said the hold up were more legal doings with Bush. Apparently all the "next friday" predictions were wrong and he said the school get notified 48 hours in advance, the they are released the report 24 hours later, and then at the end of the 48 hours they are made public.

Now who knows if this is true, he's never called to give me a "tip" before. I definately don't post enough to worry about my e-cred, just passing along the info.
