The Georgetown Postgame Report

When was the last time Maymon practiced with this team? At some point that has to stop being the excuse.

Yes, because every team that is without their best player just hums right along without skipping a beat especially before they even make it into December.

Some of you act like this is the end of the world. Did any of you see Ky get taken apart by an unranked Notre Dame team last night? Yes, they're young but they sure as hell have more talent than this UT team.

This team was never going to win the national title. Hell, I don't even think they'll win the SEC. However, as long as they're giving effort and busting their ass then I don't have a problem. This team still doesn't have a go to guy at the guard and forward spot and our go to big is on the bench. That's this team in a nutshell right now.

On a positive note we shot pretty bad from outside we had way to many turnovers and and way to many misses free throws and we still had an opportunity to win the game. We played hard, I loved seein the offensive rebounds and defense looked pretty darn good I think we will get better from this game and there will be games when a few of them 3's fall and we make more free throws and the outcome chamges but unfortunately it didn't happen tonight... I hate when teams play zone, watching the zone offense gets frustrating! Also this game been on th road will help, I know most of these players have been through it before but this is the first major road game this year and they know they should have won, this game will make this team better! Tough one to swallow but get back to work and get a win against Virginia, GO VOLS, VFL

Anyone else see Kenny Hall come wide open down low for a second on the last in bounds....I paused my dvr and just let the pain sink in at the sight of it

I did th exact same thing... Easy dunk!

Did either of you happen to see Hall turn the ball over twice down the stretch? Hall is the last player I would want with the ball in his hands down the stretch of a game. UT turned the ball over 3 consecutive times down the stretch and then Stokes had to launch a desperation airball that would've made it four consecutive trips without getting a shot off.

If I was Martin, I would've won or lost the game on Golden driving and dishing or driving and trying to draw the foul. Although he didn't have his best game either with some boneheaded turnovers. Give G'town credit. They clamped down defensively and we missed enough FT's for them to win.

We were throwing the ball in with 3 seconds and he came wide open under the basket that's a easy decision to throw him the ball and go straight up for the lay up/dunk for the win...

Im not even mad about this loss, G-Town has so much more talent on their roster. Martin is doing the best that he can with what he has. When you're missing your SEC preseason AA In Maymon, it's gonna hurt he's a guy that's gonna get you a double-double each night. It's gonna be tough but this loss is acceptable.

Every coach in the country has to deal with not having key players due to injuries or player issues at one point or another. I seem to recall we beat no 1 Kansas with 4 players missing. If we miss the tournament for a second season after going 6 years in a row that will be enough evidence for me. I hope Cuonzo gets it going but there are game management issues and x/o problems that appear to never get fixed. Georgetown has been an awful shooting team all year(3rd worst in Big East) and should have been a win if this program is headed in the right direction.

Maybe so and it's a high % shot, but Hall has shown a penchant of having hands of stone. Martin also took him out of the game after he turned the ball over on consecutive possessions where UT could've gone ahead. Both teams didn't score a bucket in the last 4 min of the game.

Pray tell what game management issues has this team had under Martin? UT was picked to finish next to last in the SEC last year and finished 2nd. Yes, a coach who has game management and X's and O's problems always does that bad.

Well on an inbounds play under the basket I would take my chances on a wide open lay up rather than throwing it out and taking a nba 3 and I know golden would have three him the ball just like anyone else would have but he didn't see him.. I don't think he was expecting someone to be so open under the goal.. Tough break

Not it getting the ball in the paint wasn't for lack of trying.
Most of the turnovers came from forcing it in from bad angles.
Didn't matter any way, cause Stokes is playing like a freshman and putting it on the floor every time he touches it.

My comment was more specific to the final two possessions. You are correct on the forcing of passes from bad angles throughout the game, particularly in the 2nd half. I meant that I would like to have seen more drives into the paint, esp. on the last two possessions when we made no attempt to get it there, be it pass or drive.

We havr to get some shooters to knock teams out of this zone. It killed us at times last year and it seems that it will again this year. No shooters or penetrators spell bad news for an offensively deficient team.

Have not watched game yet. But it sounds like the game of basketball should strike this contest from the record.

Will we struggle on the road this season?

10. Georgetown is a good team, but it's just so frustrating to see a game like that where very simple things would have won it for you. When you play so well on one side of the ball, but then suck it up so bad on the other end, and it costs you a game, people are going to be mad. Right now, UT has to find somebody willing to take the ball inside the paint and push the pace to create more opportunities. You got a chance against Virginia to get a good OOC win. Take advantage of it.[/QUOTE]

I think my ideas before the game were a little "on" than yours. Zo knows toughness but not how to coach offense. I never thought free throws could get worse than under the Pearl; but I guess they can. I blame the coach when the team has no offensive confidence. So far I have never seen him gameplan a win.

He absolutely never changes pace by pressing or zoning. He has a one track mind.

The offense was a train wreck. Golden reverted to his old form.. Tennessee has no one that can hit a consistent shot.. The book is out there now.. Play zone against Tennessee and watch them take bad shots on the perimeter.. Really needed Maymon in that game..

That game was painful to watch.

I'm not freaking out. Well continue to improve. Don't forget. We are without our best player.

That book has been out for the past two years honestly, and will continue to be the playbook to go by until we recruit a dead-eye shooter or two.

Finally some criticism about the craptastic coaching in the game from you. If Hall is a non option he should have been on the bench the last set. Martin is a coach learning how to coach big games. It's too bad UT has to be his classroom.

I see your point, but I would rather have Hall out there than any other post paired with Stokes.

I think Hall should have been in as well, crashing the board for a last second put back if Goldens 's floater in the lane didn't drop.

I've been critical when I think it needs noting. However, I'm not going to be a Debbie Downer on every single thing this team does under Martin as you seem to be. It's funny, we don't see near as many posts from you when UT is winning like last year after they swept Fla, beat UCONN and beat Vandy. I wonder why?

And who else are you going to put out there instead of Hall? Yemi? He's an offensive liability. Hall at least can score some. Hall almost got the airball rebound, but the ball went out of bounds. I'd say Hall was in there more for a putback or a rebound.

I've said all along that this team is going to win games with its defense and rebounding and they'll be suspect offensively with Maymon out. They scored 45 against Ok St and 36 last night. There are going to be more games like that until they get Maymon back or someone from the perimeter can step up whether it be Golden, McRae or McBee. It doesn't have to be the same person every night, but someone needs to step up.

Still, if they make a few free throws and go from atrocious foul shooting to just bad then they still win the game.

OrangeBalls has been pretty fair IMO. I do my best to be fair as well, but I'm obviously a bigger Martin fan.

I thought Jordan played about as good as anybody. Took the ball to the rim twice and hit one or two 3's

Everytime the vols see a zone they act like its the first time they ever seen it.I dont understand that.Does ccm not work on it?All you have to do it drive to ft line to beat it and they never even try to do that.Little pearl was the last vol that knew what to do and actually did it too.

He'd be a much better poster if he'd drop the personal attacks and douchiness.

People that get treated with everyday douchiness have asked for it, 90% of the time.

Again, where are you when UT is winning? You run and hide and don't post until UT loses. See the pattern? That is the epitome of a troll or whatever the hell you want to call it IMO.

Hell, you fling Summer's Eve all over the place any time UT loses. You truly are a hypocrite. As Sparty said, 90% of the time people that are acting like douches will get called on it. As they should.
