I can't believe that it plugged in the bunker. I know Tiger hits it high, but I don't think I've ever seen a 4 iron approach end up plugged like that.

i don't guess i realized he played a 4 on that hole. i was visiting with my buddy and his family and we were semi-paying attention. we just assumed he had a shorter club than that as deep as that ball was.

i don't think it's fair to say that Tiger won it as much as O'Hair lost it. however, i don't think Tiger missed from inside 6 feet all weekend which is an amazing feet in itself.

saw this pretty good stat on his putting

From inside of 10 feet, he sank 63 of 66 putts for the week. In the final round, he made 100 percent of 'em -- 15-for-15.

If the Golf Channel wanted to re-run the commercial of all the other tour pros having such a great time in Tiger's absence, then their obvious dismay upon his return, I think it would be appropriate. In short, Golf is "watchable" again now.

anybody who stopped watching after the US Open last year and picked up again upon Tiger's return has no idea what they missed out on.

To each their own I guess. I'll say this, Tiger makes Golf must see tv. I can skip through the highlights on SC without him.

yeah, Vijay dominating the FedEx Cup, Kenny Perry playing some of his best golf in his life, Paddy winning back-to-back majors, and Camillo Villegas getting his first win were certainly unimportant events.

not to mention actually getting to see the other players on tour. Throw in Bubba and Boo and it was definitely a fun time to watch the PGA.

Yep. I watched more golf in the last 10 months than I ever have.

Not that I'm going to stop now that Tiger is back, but it was nice to be able to watch the tournaments and see more than one player for the majority of the weekend.

Yeah, I agree, ehh. Those were all exciting, ehh, events. Ehh, nothing like watching Paddy Harrington win a golf tournament, ehh. Listening to him, ehh, talk is awesome, too.

If I won 2 majors in one year, I'd probably develop a speech impediment just to piss everybody off.

So you didn't watch the Norman - Harrington British?

I watched it here and there. Somebody like Norman is the only other person that could pull me in like Tiger. I enjoyed the Ryder Cup, but what happened to the stars of that event? Not a one of them have done squat this year.

I've played golf since birth, but I can't say it is fun to watch on tv. I would much rather play it as to watch it.

so it seems that you're simply arguing from the worldview of a disinterested fan. For those who watch golf at every opportunity, Tiger can come or go without making a material difference, except on the money list and winner's column.

Why do this year's results for last year's Ryder Cup squad matter? It was compelling TV and they were a much better team without Tiger. There were no pins and needles like Tiger induces. Almost all of them will tell you that. By the by, last I checked, one member of that team has been kicking ass of late. Winning at Riviera is a big deal. Following that against a strong field at Doral is an even bigger deal.

1) Yes, I would probably classify myself as a passive fan of golf, with a strong interest in Tiger Woods. I'm not going to take the time to argue the merits of Tiger Woods being on the tour, but you and I both know he means more to the tour than what you just tried to pass him off as.

2) Yes, it was compelling tv at the time. To be marketable and to drive ratings (ala Tiger Woods) you need to be in contention a little more than not even showing up thus far in the season.

3)Mickelson gained, what, 2 points? And, that was a miracle showing for him the last few times in these events. He was not the draw that made it exciting to watch, either. Kim, Weekly, Holmes and Mahan were the draw, and they have been non-existent so far this year. That is not good for the ratings. That doesn't make anybody's pockets bigger.

none of this addressed the point. We're talking about watching golf for ourselves. Not whether 4 jillion "you the man" style clowns show up or the purses grow. We're talking about compelling golf.

The season is awfully young to be discounting last year's RC team. Bottom line is that pro golf lends itself to streakiness because of the huge premium on putting. In fact, putting is THE reason that Tiger's the best.

Ok, well my whole argument stems back to doozer asking if anybody actually missed Tiger being gone. The majority of people that watch golf say yes. If watching golf with or without Tiger Woods is still compelling to you, great! I am happy for you. It's just that the majority of people agree with me. Tiger makes me want to watch. If Kim or Weekly would get off their butts and play a little, I could garner interest in them.

The ONLY reason?

I enjoy watching Tiger because I believe he is the best putter and iron player in the game. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the course setups favor him so his driving doesn't kill him, as it should.

He is, no doubt, the best clutch putter the game has ever seen. The putts that he makes and the places that he hits it make him watchable.

He has a pretty strong will to win, too. Tiger wins because he is mentally stronger than the guy beside him.

Without that putter, all this type of drivel is simply media hyped gobbledygook.
