The Golf Thread

Played a few days ago. My driving really sucked but a hit my irons and putted pretty well with my new Scotty. used to have an older Bettinardi, but it was all beat up which is why a switched to a SC.

Anybody hitting an X-Tour edition? I inherited one tonight. Looking forward to my first round with it tomorrow.

well gonna have to read the manual on the calloway uPro

took it out to the tee box, at the new house today.

Could only get the yardage to come up, not the graphics and layout of the hole

Shot an 81 yesterday. First round with the X tour in the bag. I am nowhere close to long off the tee anymore. On a good day with the old TM 360 I could average 260 off the tee. Hit two drives bodering on 300 in wet conditions. This thing was a round changer yesterday. I have absolutely got to do something about my putting.

First, lemme start with some hate. Can someone tell me why idiots scream "get in the hole" off a tee shot on a par 4? like we are watching Happy Gilmore? I even hear it on par 5's. I just cant wrap my brain around why someone would say that?

Real reason i came here. Im on the verge of buying a new Driver as my Big Bertha 2 is about to croak. Anyone hit the new Diablo? if so what did you think of it?

They're all good now. Just get a look you like and a shaft that fits. You'll like the results.

Works for me. One more question, ive been hearing a lot about "pured" shafts. Does anyone first hand if these are actually difference makers?

I have mine pured and it might make a little difference, but not much if you're using better shafts.

Can someone tell me what i have? In the early 80's me and my father (who has passed away and i have his set now) bought a sets of Ping Eye2 irons about a year apart and i was noticing that my irons looked different than dads. My grooves were closer together than his iron set. I was told that they were square grooves, but all Eye2 irons have square grooves. BUT,..the ones i had were considered illegal per USGA until they made the Solheim edition. This is where this gets interesting,....i local golf pro told me that a serious collector would pay $2K for them. IS THIS CORRECT?

It's a matter of what kind of grooves you have. There was a big lawsuit filed by Ping against the USGA and it led to the Eye 2's grooves being changed.

I'm guessing you have a set of the old "illegal" Ping Eye 2's.

They are true square. I can put some mean spin on the ball

I have them stored away and haven't hit them in years.

If I remember correctly, there were 3 types of Ping Eye 2 head designs.

The originals can be identified by the lack of a "+" on the back of the head. These had the grooves that were being contested at that time.

They then slightly changed the shape of the head and changed the grooves. These had the plus sign.

For 6-8 months after the new head design was introduced the heads were made with the original, contested grooves while the matter was still being litigated. These are known as the "plus-no-plus" version and the most desired.

Here is a history of the Eye2

No problem. I've had several sets of Pings over the years and still have my Grandfather's K-1's.

I had some + no +'s and had them reshafted with Dynamic Gold Sensicore shafts. They felt like butter for a cast club.

As of a year or two ago, I know there were still a couple of guys on tour playing Ping Eye 2.

I will play my Eye 2's until the grooves can not be seen anymore. Those irons took my from a 18 to a 5.

Mine still has the original grips, and need regripped really bad. I'm so fired up right now i'm gonna take my X-16's out and play with the Eye 2's tomorrow. Those clubs spoiled me with the cavity backs after hitting MacGregor VIP's with a very small sweet spot. I still have those too and i'd embarass myself if i tried to hit a ball with that set..LOL
