The Golf Thread

After a very poor round on a tough course last Friday, I am officially back to hacker status. I simply can't play 8 rounds a summer and expect to have any feel for my swing or the ball.

No doubt about it. Either work at it or lower expectations. For my kids' first three years, I just ate the ugly. It was annoying as hell, but reality nonetheless.

I'm in Hawthorn Woods CC, on #6, I"ve played the front 9 with a neighbor. He shot even par, and I had a 40.

It's pretty pricey, I was hoping with the economy that the initaion fee would be waved, but it hasn't been.

My kids are 2 and 4, so I may wait till there a few years older.. At least if they were playing as well, the cost would be a little more justified.

I've been down in San Antonio for most of the summer, this place has some great places to play for decent prices...if you can take the heat.

My last three rounds have all been (legit, seriously) under 100. Progress...just makes me spend more money on more crap i think I need now. It's great.

San Antonio's a cool city..
Use to travel there once a month for work..never golfed, but spent alot of time on the Riverwalk

Never been to gulf shores and I am going in 2 weeks. Checked out the courses in the area and the Peninsula appears to be the priciest one. The Arnold Palmer courses are a little cheaper and extremely cheap after 4. Any advice? I would like to play at least twice and hit balls most everyday. Our invite is the next week so I I want to keep the club in my hands

Kiva Dunes was the best course there when I visited. I would guess that's still true. If there is RTJ trail course there, I can almost guarantee it is solid and all the test you want.

bought myself a new stand bag recently, as the the first one ever made broke on me about a month ago. this bag also is about 100x times more comfortable and probably weighs half as much. even bag technology has come along way. if i had known what i was missing out on, i'd have bought one along time ago.

I worked a tourney there and got to play 14-18. I really liked the course.

Just got online to check it out and they are shutting down next week to redo their greens. Fitting!

Didn't see any robert trent jones courses so I guess I will be winging it.

Has anybody checked out Farm Links, yet? Some friends of mine absolutely love it

Played Kiva last week. They have COMPLETELY lost the greens and are closing to redo them.
The Peninsula is a great track and in very good shape for June/July.
The Farms courses are OK, typical houseing developement courses.

Great-I was just getting back to respectable single digit golf and you tell me this...and I have an 8 day old son at home. O well. :ermm:

Played a really nice course in NW Chiacgo this morning
Stonewall Orchards, very nice layout, and the greens were lightening quick

Played yesterday, and after shooting something uncalculatable on the front, I was +5 on the back with a bad-luck double on 18. I really didn't miss a shot after my drive on 10. It is amazing to me how I can go from playing horrible golf to some of my best so quickly and for no apparent reason. Maybe it was that hotdog at the turn.

Of course the real problem will be when I go back for no reason, which will predictably occur tomorrow, I'm guessing on the second tee box. C'est la golf.

I'm predicting now that tiger laps the field at the british. He has just about all of the shots right now and he is putting pretty well also...or he could shoot 76 on Thursday like he did at bethpage. No, I'm determined to believe that he isn't just teasing us for this time, he is actually going to play up to the hype of his previous tournament forthis major.
