Boys win, -2 to +1 after 9. I hit it pretty well, but my buddy played much better than expected. His wife was worse than expected.

A little storm blew around us cooling it off and sprinkling us with rain, so the afternoon ended up being quite enjoyable.

I had the best day driving the ball in some time today.

Played 27 with my Dad and a couple other of the guys.

My Dad, who knows my swing better than even I do, immediately saw I was getting too steep with my driver. Flattened it out a bit and only missed about 4 fairways all day.

win, win for you two..
I play at 7:08 tomorrow, and hope to play as well as I did in Florida last week...

I can't remember the last time I had more than about a 4 shot improvement. 12 shots better is insane.

I couldn't get to that point.

11 over would have 13 clubs snapped in half and my rear end planted firmly at the bar.

From a beauty standpoint I agree about River Islands. In terms of condition it's not any better than a few courses closer to Knoxville.

I'm a fan and it is definitely a challenge from the tips. As more of these courses intended to be private become public, there's going to be some good golf to be had around here.

Would you be referring to Tennessee National, perhaps? The Rarity courses started off totally private, did they not?

Maybe 10 or 12 years ago, River Islands got four stars in Golf Digest and was ranked #8 public course in the state. They started resting on their laurels and really let the maintenance level go downhill, making a ton of money in the process. Apparently, it was sold for what seems to me to be a cheap price (under $2 million?) for an amazing, unique piece of property. Hope the new ownership restores it to what it used to be.

A 12 stroke differential?!?

I guess it's safe to say you figured some things out on the back 9??

I tripled two par threes. One a hazard and a three putt And one buried in face of a bunker.

I actually hit the ball okay, just a terrible start and terrible on par threes.

I was pretty pissed, but had to keep my cool to not lose my shirt in my bet.

I thought about maybe doing some yardwork a few minutes ago. Checked the heat index and it was still 103 at 7:30.

Reminds me of when I lived in central Florida (Lakeland) for about 4 years. People always want to visit you when you live in Fla, of course. Folks would come in July or August and when they planned their trip would call and say, "we'll do this, and this and man it will be fun..." and I would say "we can't do about half of those things"...."why not?"...."well, because a person can't do stuff like that in the daytime in central Florida because IT'S AN OVEN, it's not a place, OK?!" They would find out when they got there. I just used to take them to my sister's at Cocoa Beach where there was air.

there's not point in living more than 3 miles from the beach in south or central florida imo.

I have a tee time at 1:30 today. Temperature is supposed to get to 103 and heat index to near 115. If you get a chance, send up some prayers for me this afternoon. I'm not sure why I agreed to do this.

I couldn't possibly agree any more with that except to say my sister said there's no point in living in Florida away from the coast. It IS brutal. And I was young then.

Aside from different military training things it's the only place I ever saw young people in shape just fall on their faces while working.

At first glance, it seems that the Greenbrier might need a bit of beefing up if it is going to be a regular tour stop.

The ridge through 18 green looks like they laid down a water main and covered it with a layer of sod. What stop does this replace?
