This caught my eye about the previous record . . .

5,000 yards!? What did they do? Play the back tees on a Putt Putt course?

seriously. He probably drove several greens with less than driver and never had more than wedge. Not trying to hate, but that's ridiculous. I slew of 2 putt birdies and up & downs for birdie just doesn't do much for me.

either that, or it was some kind of par-64 or 65 "executive layout," which makes the 57 considerably less impressive. I don't see how a par-70, 71, or 72 course could play 5,000 yards unless you're playing the ladies' tees. Not even Lost Creek is anywhere near that short.

They were talking about the resort like it was the pinnacle of vacationing. Who would ever go on a vacation to West Virginia?

No offense to any WV residents, but what a dump.

I assure you that that the Greenbrier is all that. Its sister resort, the Homestead, across the state line in Virginia is equally impressive, but has a much better golf course. Mountain golfing at its finest.

Have you ever played The Cliffs?

doesn't look like it's very cheap either.

and West Virginia is a beautiful state in all four seasons.

Shot 82 at River Islands with 3 clubs. Came in 2nd in our foursome straight up but first with my hcap. I played with a 5 iron, 8 iron, and SW. Leaving the putter in the car was a big gamble but I did ok putting with the 5. The primary reason I ditched the putter was I was going to play red tees and my buddies would have had me hit the putter off the tee. That strategy probably wouldn't work for me at any other course than that one though.

Interesting round this afternoon. Best ever 37 on the front. I don't want to talk about the back.

Highlight of the day was the par 5 6th. Rolled over a 4i and watched the ball disappear to the left, followed by a lound clang. After searching for a few minutes, I found the ball inside the trash can by 7 tee box. WTH is the rule on that? I took relief.

I have never been to the Greenbrier, although I would like to go. However, after seeing several other parts of West Virginia during a couple of different seasons, that state sucks. Massively. Kentucky feels proud standing next to it. Eastern Kentucky.

Homestead and Greenbrier are big tickets, but are best of breed in the sort of large mountain resort territory. Asheville has the Grove Park Inn is sort of in that mold, but just pales in comparison, even though it is a fantastic place.

yeah, i'll take that back. unless you're skiing, winter is terrible. my college roomate was from Bluefield. his town sucked, but the mountains were great.

in terms of quality of life, yeah, that's terrible too.

The resort looked nice, but I can't imagine ever taking a vacation in West Virginia unless it was free hand job weekend or something.

One of the worst mornings of my life was when I realized I hooked up with a girl from west virginia.

I am more of a beach vacation type of guy.

bro, I'm just telling you that should you happen to get an invite to either the Greenbrier or the Homestead, you need to roll your show in there and enjoy. The two are very close together and the Homestead boasts one of the best golf courses in the world. Probably the best mountain course there is.

In reality if there was an opportunity I wouldn't pass it up. The resort looks very nice.

Just doubt I would personally choose to go, but maybe for a weekend golf trip.

i'll be doing that next month.

where you going? I was in kauai back in May, it was fantastic.

Doing a trip that will take me to NYC and Jersey to visit my mom, down to Charleston to visit a friend and ending at UT for the Oregon game.

Very excited. Charleston is a blast.

Sunset Beach or North Myrtle, depending on which week i can get off work. we were a little late getting this going.

i'm already campaigning for Hilton Head next year.

i'll take golf suggestions for this year now, less than 100 bucks.

North Myrtle has a couple of decent tracks. One Nicklaus job and King's North (or something like that) that is decent. Can't touch Hilton Head or straight up Myrtle, but those are decent.

i'm going with the family and will have my own car. i don't have a problem going anywhere in the area.

We played all 4 courses at Barefoot Resort in N Myrtle. I high recommend Norman, Love, and Fazio, which all share a clubhouse. The Dye course is one of the biggest jokes of a course on the planet. 6 hour round it took to play that nonsense.
The other three are spectacular.
