The Golf Thread

As long as you keep up with the group nobody cares how good or bad you are.

My club is closed while the greens are being rebuilt.
Playing two great muni tracks here in GA tomorrow and Sat. The Frog and Legacy on Lanier. Then up to Bear Trace Harrison Bay on Sunday.
I NEED this break.
Any one have a report for the Frog or Legacy?

Never played either one but I'm playing a tournament at Legacy next week.

What a beautiful course! The scenery alone is worth the trip., 12 of the 18 holes are directly along or over the lake.
1) Buy the yardage book, TRUST the yardage book tons of blind shots and two "how much do you want to bite off" tee shots over water.
2) Pull the cars out of the garage and practice your ten footer on the concrete. It will be easier to stop them in your garage.
3) The good news about the greens, they will hold your approach. Good luck putting it once you get on.
4) Did I mention that the greens are fast?
5) Local knowledge is the key to playing that course well. I WILL go back.
Have fun!

Thanks for the report. I had heard that those greens were diabolical.

It also did not help that the day before, we played The Frog and they had airified and top dressed their greens earlier that week. It was all you could do to make yourself hit a ten footer hard enought to get to the hole.

Any recommendations for around the dalton area? Heading down next month to visit the in laws and would like to sneak in about 4 rounds to stay away from the house as long as possible.

Dalton Country Club and The Farm are both excellent tracks. Not sure whether you can get on them, but it would be well worth it to play either one of them.

You might also check out Barnsley Gardens. It would be about 30 minutes south of Dalton. It's a newer course and I haven't played it, but I've had several people tell me that it's very nice.

The nicest public course in that area is Barnsley Gardens. When you see the cost, you might gag.
If your family is involved in the carpet business, they might be able to get you on at The Farm. It is great but private.

Indian Trace in Chatsworth is a nice course.
Nob North in Cohutta is another.
If you want to drive south toward ATL, there are several good public courses in Cherokee and North Cobb

My wife's uncle works in the carpet business so maybe take a shot at The Farm. Thanks for the info, I'll look into them and may try to play them all.

Take a day trip down to Stone Mountain Park. Let the family do the tourist thing at the park and you play one of the two courses there. Both excellent tracks for the money.

The Farm is a flat out beast of a golf course. It's been awhile since I played it, but I think I remember the slope from the back tee being 140+.

The 15 plus handicap golfer will not enjoy a day at the Farm that is for sure. But, still better than a day with the in-laws. :)

Sounds fun. A challenge is welcomed as long as it's fair and not goody golf.

When I was in college, we played a tournament there. It rained during the 1st round and made the course feel like it was playing 7,500 yards. I shot 80 and was pissed until I noticed that I was actually at the bottom of the leaderboard.
