The Golf Thread

Same here, the first time I beat my Dad he accidently shut my fingers in the trunk when we were putting the clubs in the car, broke one and cut two others pretty bad, I remember jumping up and down with my hand caught in the trunk while he's trying to open it again. My uncle who was playing with us that day still goes on about that, claims Dad did it on purpose because I bested him by 2 strokes, we still laugh about it to this day, damn if it didn't hurt then though.
:eek:lol:

The best times I ever had on the golf course were learning the game from my dad.

I loved going to the course with my dad when I was a kid.

Absolutely, that's where I learned the game, some of my fondest memories.

Same for me. I still remember the day I beat my Dad for the first time. If still drives him crazy that I'm on a 25 year winning streak.

I've been taking him off and on for 3 years already...He turns 6 in April. I've been fortnuate to have access to courses both here and in Arkansas, so we'll grab a cart and go out for a few holes at a time.

This will be the first foray on vacation with him, and my father in law, vs putzing around our home course

I have been able to play 5 times so far this year. 4 of those occasions I have been fortunate enough to play 27 holes. My 9 holes have ranged from 38-51. I have actually shot 38 twice and that is awesome for me as I am typically a bogey golfer. I have shot between 88 and 97 with my 4 full rounds. Typically when I break 90 I go home a happy man.

My Dad started taking my out to the course when I was four. I had a cut down 4 iron, a cut down 9 iron(for pitching, chipping) and a putter. Heck, I played about once or twice a week with my Dad. Those first few years are easliy the reason I was able to play competitive golf as a junior and collegian. I owe everything about my golf game to my Dad. It's the greatest thing he ever did for me

I pitched in some big games throughout my career. But there's no greater feeling in sports than a round of golf with my Dad.

I wish I could play a round with my Dad right now, but unfortunately, he passed in 1994 at 72 because of a bad heart. One of my best memories with him was when we both shot the lowest rounds of our lives together in the same round. I was 19 and he was 60. He had a 72 and I had 67. Later in life when I shot my best round of all time, I wasn't with him but called him the minute I got off the golf course. He passed a few days later. I put the scorecard of his 72 and my 67 in his coffin.

Sorry to hear. At least you get to enjoy the memories, though.

Awesome post. I wish I could play one more round with dad.

You guys are making me sad. I'm calling my Dad right now to go play golf (not kidding).

I wouldn't hesitate to make a better effort to call or see my father if he were alive. That's my only regret over the last few years. That and a bottle of mezcal

Me too man. Lost mine last february. This last year has sucked.

I'm lucky enough to still have pop around, but he had a major stroke in '07 and is in a nursing home so there's no chance of golf with him anymore. I remember the good times and him teaching me the game, though.

So how bad did he beat you? :)

Played really well today (74), which is totally opposite of yesterday (86) although playing conditions today were 1000% better, wet and some cold brisk wind with some serious gusts yesterday, today however was absolutely perfect, a beautiful day to play golf.

Phil shoots 63 to tie the course record yesterday and follows it up with 65 today to go -16 for the weekend and win by 3, some seriously good golf, the dude is the best wedge player the game has ever seen. How good was the chip on #6 yesterday ? one of the best golf shots I've ever seen.

I am no fan of Phil, but inside 100 yards, he's the G.O.A.T. If he hit a few more fairways and didn't miss as many short-ish putts, he'd have 8-10 majors by now.

being your 10th round I would question what kind of 93 it was but still would be pretty good. Just need a few good shots a round to keep you coming back

Going to be sidelined for a bit I'm afraid. Strained rotator cuff. Luckily I didn't tear anything. Note to self... The next time your old high school asks you to throw a simulated game, tell them to go to Hades.
