The Golf Thread

Maybe you've changed something without noticing it? I played AWFUL the other day after playing the best golf ever just a few days before. Couldn't figure it out...apparently I was swaying instead of turning my hips, causing me to top the ball, slice like crazy and just in general suck.

Learning golf is so hard, I think, because there's a lot to keep in mind while you're trying to get better and when you kinda grasp one concept there are 10 more that build on it. Even though I'm getting better, sometimes it doesn't show.

thanks guys. i will certainly look into that.

it's interesting you guys say that, however, because i've been using the exact same grip that the pro taught me many years ago.

Where is the blister on your thumb, which thumb is it on and are you right or left handed?

I think for someone who is a 105-115 golfer the only club that could give you any help would be a good driver. Unless you are good to great, I dont see a big difference in irons.

I'd save the money and spend my time from 50 yards and closer. I assure you that in the 110-115 range you'll hit one heckuva lot more shots with wedges and putter than you will your 10 or so drivers per round.

One thing is for sure, the short game is where the score gets better, driving long shots just feels so good though!:) Thats 275y for me:cray:

it's nowhere near as frustrating to play with a masher as it is against short-knocker who gets up and down on you all day.

I played a best ball tourney with firefighters and our team shot 5 under. I was thinking YIPPPIIII and then they said the best score was -118. Back to reality.

-118 is really stout. did they play in reverse or something?

both thumbs towards the top, under the knuckle.. i am right handed and also wear a glove on my left hand. i'm a thin guy, but can sweat with the best of them, especially on a hot summer day like yesterday. without knowing much, i'm thinking that my sweaty hands had something to do with it, in combination with the continuous swinging. my glove was soaked by the end of the bucket.

perhaps mearly keeping my hands dry and a little chalk of baby powder around may help?

Grips have a way of migrating over time, and things like grip pressure, especially throughout the swing, are very difficult to guage from one shot to the next, much less over many years. A good pro can spot this quickly and set you on the right course.

what can i expect to pay for a lesson? and where would those in the Knoxville area reccomend? is one enough?

One lesson to assess your grip is plenty; I'm not sure you can ever have enough to "perfect" your game. The pro I occasionally see charges $40 per. I think it is a 30 minute lesson that always seems to stretch closer to an hour.

depends on what you know today and how your fundamentals look. I'd start with one and ask the pro for his thoughts (without the sales job).

BPV nails it as usual. Also, always be leery of any Pro whose lessons seem to include references to specific equpiment or anything you've read in Golf Digest or saw on the Golf Channel last night.

Flew into Chicago last night and as luck would have it there's a Golf Galaxy right across the street from the Hotel.

They had an awesome in door swing analyzer and video driving range.

Tested 3 new drivers, it was a great way to unwind after a 2 hour delay sitting on the plane before we left XNA , and a flight and drive into Chicago.

Went back over their tonight, and just got back in but didn't hit the Cobra

I hit the Cleveland Hi bore they had it marked down to 149.00

Had a Fujikura shaft and the head felt very solid.

I just have a hard time going away from Titelist..
