The Golf Thread

All I'm getting at is you bait others into it with your responses. We've even been down that road. Don't take it personal, but it probably has some connection with you having obvious anger management issues. What grown man dumps his whole bag into the lake because they are shooting in tthe mid eighties? Just take a step back and figure out what battles you really want to fight. Took me a long time to figure that out and I'm still a work in progress.

If you're not playing for a living or REAL competitive events then what does it matter? I think people wanna be better than what they actually are because they feel they have potential to be really good. I may go out & shoot a 75 then next round turn around & shoot an 89 the next round. Some people feel like they have to hit a driver on every hole, you don't especially if it's all over the place. Get it in play off the tee, get on or around the green, score when you can, be happy when you have a realistic par chance, limit damage when you don't.

Example: went to Golf Galaxy yesterday because I'm going to replace my 3 wood with 13.5-14 degree model. I have a 17 degree hybrid I love so I'm wanting something to better offset between it and the driver. The associate first told me I needed a regular shaft. Couldn't keep myself from having the clubface a mile behind me at impact. Then he told me I was hitting all my shots off the heel because I hit the first one there. There was a splattering of ball marks all over the center of the tape. It was at this point I decided I wasn't going to bother anymore. I'm going to buy whatever club I end up with from the course here on Norfolk Naval Station because I'll get a discount, no tax and I can mess around with the different clubs on the driving range and course. I just wanted something to do since it was raining. Then came the icing on the cake. As I was walking away, he tried to tell me I was delofting the club (almost certain I wasn't) and that I'd never get the club in the air that way despite the fact that all my shots had a beautiful trajectory, they just weren't necessarily straight. Part of me wanted to tell him how clueless he was, but I just laughed and walked away.

It was a release. What can I say. Like doves, but heavier. As for your don't take it personal personal analysis about anger issues, it's the internet, so you can assume as you please. My competitive drive is high and I don't like sucking. That pretty much sums it up. That is the battle I want to face right now though. I have plenty of other things to take away my time and focus with business and family, but have been trying to get to a certain point in golf as a goal. I cant play competitive sports anymore. I don't play poker anymore. I don't train anymore outside of a few pushups when just 2 years ago I was competing every month in tournaments.
Golf and tournies are my competition and release and totally blowing my game sucks. And I was frustrated/mad for @ 10 seconds. Some on here have been mad for years. At internet silly stuff.
20 years of golf and I never threw a club, so I decided to get 20 yrs worth of tosses out in 5 seconds.
And everyday is a work in progress, but I'm not gonna lie, this age right now all of a sudden has been difficult. Seeing and feeling your body not be able to do things you were doing just a few months ago is probably a big part of it.

Lol. Solely based off your VN posting, sounds like a lot of denial. I have a huge competitive drive as well but I know how to shut it down and control it. I've come to grips with the fact that my job doesn't allow me to be as sports active as I want to be. I'm still very physically active, but I shut down my drive whenever I step off the playing field or can sense my anger is getting the best of me. Basing it off of your posts here can be biased though because a lot of times I personally go well into the deep end to debate issues. This causes many to improperly assume I'm mad, angry, etc when in reality I'm just discussing. Happens in real life too. Those times are even more fun because typically whomever I'm debating with knows I'm not angry with them, but several onlookers assume my opponent and I are seconds away from blows towards one another.

I've played golf with several VN members including Vol in Ar at my home course and in Knoxville as well. I don't recall him having a bad time.

I think the way people type or posts determines what people think at times. I''ll respond with a simple question and a poster will tell me to calm down and I'm like, wtf, I just asked a question.
As far as angry posts on VN, I don't like when people do make it personal or start throwing out bs during debates. It does tick me off and I usually get in trouble for it. I have been ticked at times on here but who hasn't.
But as you say I'm in a lot of denial, about what? I'm curious. I told you my frustrations about the game and my age and not being able to reach my goals getting to me. I'd rather release frustrations away from home than bring them home.

Your hardon for me is borderline sexy.

Perhaps you would wish that, I don't know or really care honestly.

I do know there is nothing more satisfying than watching (or in this case, hearing) about another grown man turn into temper tantrum throwing 6 year old on the golf course. It tells me no matter how bad I've played, I at least did one thing right in keeping my cool.

Some people toss their sticks to release frustration. Some act like a jackass to others on anonymous boards to make them feel better. It is what it is.

I toss them where they can at least be recovered. A friend of mine "snapped" a few years ago & he snapped every club but his driver & putter.

My friend snapped his nine iron once and will now play non competitive rounds without a nine just to remind him to never do it again.

I've certainly had the putter throw and a few wedge tosses. My friends all know it's coming because I start searching for a good safe place for the throw. My normal move though is to throw the ball up in the air and hit it with the face of the putter. Always shocked at the fact I typically get great contact with this method and can usually go retrieve the ball. I typically even aim for the next tee box to make it easier.

they were my old Callaway x18 pro series. I was playing Mizuno, struggled with them and bartered them out awhile back. I think I need a shaft change away from stiff steel. My swing speed is 10 mph lower than last year.
I haven't been a club tosser but @ half the guys I play with will give one a heave, depending on alcohol level and level of choke on the shot. But that's why I like them. Nobody judges and it's over in 5 seconds. We don't have any guys that think they are better people than others because of a club toss.

sounds like my group. And you can see it building. We'll even have side conversations like "man, if this putt doesn't go in, get ready to duck because you know he's going to discus throw his putter".
I have done the ball toss and tag, but hit the shaft of my putter, dented it, and didn't do it again.

Tiger pulls the old "injury" card because he's sucking. Lol

Too many weights, imo, and once he hurt that knee, I felt there was a good chance he would have one injury after another as he got older. Jack's record won't be touched and it looked like a lock prior to the Perkins bakery chick.

I'm sure he's hoping that stopping will help him make the PGA. I don't blame him for making the smart decision given he wasn't in contention.
