The Golf Thread

The covert's are a game improvement club with a pretty big cavity. No way I could play blades.

Yeah those protos are ridiculous. I saw a live auction on eBay on them the other day for the very first set out of the 40 made. Saw someone say they thought it would take $7500 to win them. Ridiculous money that I'll never have the luxury of spending on golf clubs :)

I looked at yours yesterday at Golfsmith. They actually look similar to mine from address. I may start looking at another set in a couple months when the new stuff comes out & there's deals on this years stuff. Been playing a lot more the past year & a half so might look for something a little less game improvement.

back on the course again Friday. Didn't want to come back that early but they had 11 and peer pressure got me. Plus I've been easy money to them lately but played ok. 85 on a 137 slope. Rough got me on 4 holes, all doubles and all in a row on the front, and a couple of times only a few inches off the fairway. The ball just sinks down in it and you have to punch out.
Wore a big brace on my right leg and it gave me some confidence and strength, which helped me get through the ball. My new sticks also have shafts that are @ 25 grams lighter and it helped. 46-39.
I stopped my robotic type stuff and choking my grip. Stopped thinking and just had a nice and smooth swing, relaxed my hands a little and just hit the back of the ball. It's really silly to me that at least my off and on game, loosening the grip and just swinging at the ball is great therapy and usually can fix my problems, yet I don't think about it sooner or don't really do it when I think I am. Akin to someone thinking they are swining 3/4 and are going passed parallel

Shot an 87 yesterday. 2 doubles & 2 triples :( . Did have 2 birds though & other than 2 terrible swings it wasn't that bad for not playing in 3 weeks. Was off just a hair on some that I was able to save par & others I bogeyed. Here's my approach on 178 yd par 3 with a 7 iron. I did make it :)

Those greens punched?

What new sticks did you get

Callaway x2 hot irons with a lighter steel shaft. Adams Idea hybrid. Last year's Callaway something driver and 4 wd. Can't remember the name. Cleveland wedges and putter.
The days of me trying to hit stiff shaft irons with smaller faces are done. I started the game with Callaway after college and am back with their irons. I like them and Ping. Have never swung titleist or Taylor Made well.

front 9 opened yesterday after being closed since @ early May. It was great to see a ball sit up on zoysia fairways. Cart path only till the spring. Greens were great shape because they haven't been played, but we are all excited. It's supposed to be a nice course in a nice neighborhood and the Bermuda just drowned and it looked like a course in a 3rd world country.
I worry about filling divots as most golfers will forget to bring the sand with them and I think there are going to be a ton of holes around.

I never understand why they just don't put boxes of sand in the rough at about 100-150 yards out like they do on the tees of a lot of par 3s. Or, for that matter, just sit one in the middle of the fairway on the 150 marker and another one at 100.

that would make too much sense

Pretty much all the places I play have the bottle mounted to the cart. If it's empty they usually have a station somewhere around the cubhouse or first tee to swap it out

Yeah, that's pretty common. But if it's cart path only and you walk 50 yards across a fairway and forget the sand, most will just try to piece together the divot, kick in the edges and stomp it or just pretend they didn't see it. It'd be nice if there was another alternative.

I think that's asking a lot. Chances are you would have to walk a ways anyway to get to wherever they put the sand so you may as well just go back to the cart. And like you stated doing something is better than nothing.

The problem down here is that this far south in the heat of Summer it does absolutely no good to replace a grass divot. Unless water hits it within an hour or so, it's going to wilt in the heat. The only benefit is that the bare spot won't be as deep.
