The Golf Thread

The problem down here is that this far south in the heat of Summer it does absolutely no good to replace a grass divot. Unless water hits it within an hour or so, it's going to wilt in the heat. The only benefit is that the bare spot won't be as deep.

I understand & a lot of times, especially Bermuda, the divot just explodes & there's really nothing left to replace. If I forget the bottle, it's empty, or I don't have one I try to at least do something. If I do have it I fill mine & a few extra. Same on the green with ball marks.

I bet I fix 2 to 3 ball marks on each green most of the time. I don't understand why people refuse to fix them. It takes all of what, 4 seconds?

I will admit though, sometimes I am guilty of not filling fairway/rough divots because I walk a lot and would rather not lug around a 5 pound sand bottle.

You know who doesn't generally care about divots and ball marks, are beginner golfers and seniors. Beginners because many don't know, understand or are just excited to be there. Same for seniors, except add that they don't give a flip.

Ball marks bug me more than not replacing divots.

It's amazing how many don't repair them.

Alright who didn't know you weren't allowed to hit from a wrong green without penalty? I realize as a junior rules official years ago I have more knowledge than most casual golfers, but I really thought that one was standard knowledge.

And I'll also reiterate how ridiculous it is to not have rules officials all over the place. Take a few thousand off the prize total and put a rules official on each tee box, each fairway and each green for every tournament.

I've played in a ton of high school, college and amateur events and even acted as a rules official for some Junior events. I've never heard of that one.

Then again, how many times are courses designed in such a way that this comes up?

On the PGA Tour, there should definitely be a couple on every hole supervising every situation.

You take relief no closer to hole?

Fair enough GA. I took the USGA test and passed, so I am a little more nerdy on the subject than most. Should've taken the official one I guess.

I think Foley is a douche, but as gets posted constantly, Tiger won five times last year. Mahan just won yesterday. Guess who his coach is? Justin Rose seems to be doing pretty well too. It's so funny how much weight y'all out on the swing coach.

I think Foley had tiger thinking about his swing too much and not just playing golf. He was almost like a robot. I think this is a good move for tiger.

Tiger has Tiger like a robot. He has a bum knee, a bad back and he's 16 months from forty years old. Those are key components to bad golf.

Shot an 82 and an 87 on two different courses this weekend. I walked sat morning, first tee time. Wish there were younger people where I live, venice fl, to walk with me but I don't mind being a single. Especially the first on the course.

I don't see it happening at this point, Arky. I think he's too messed up physically and mentally to get back. I wouldn't mind seeing him get back into contention again.
