The Golf Thread

Coming off last season, I really thought he was going to mount one more charge. Now that the injuries have piled up, I'm afraid he's going to spend his 40s like Fred Couples instead of like Vijay Singh.

So trying a new ball out today. Really liked the Callaway Supersoft but for some reason I was flying greens on occasion by a good margin. Seemed more profound with the shorter irons. It's ok to hit a 9 iron 170 yds but not if you're wanting to hit it 155. Anyway I may try it some more but today gonna play Wilson FG tour x.

Well yea I normally hit it around 150 but mind you my irons are lifted fairly strong. PW is 44*. The problem is when it flies 10-15 yds farther.

That's still smoking it pretty good. I can probably get a 9 iron to go that far, but it would likely involve Advil and pulled muscles.

Oh yea the Wilson ball was pretty good. A lot more spin & a firmer feel. Had a nice "crack" when you hit it but not like hitting a rock. I think the supersoft will be a better cool weather ball. I hit the ball good but putted terrible. The greens were super super fast & it took a while to get use to greens that fast. You had to play twice as much break as what you thought & then play for about 4 foot of run out. After playing on "Velcro" zoysia & slower greens it was tough playing champion Bermuda double cut & rolled.

The first par 3 yesterday was 165 yds. I hit an 8 iron pin high about 30 feet left. A couple of us replayed that 9 after the round. I hit 8 iron again to about 4 ft, missed the putt. Another par 3 was 202 yds, downhill. Hit a 6 iron. First one I hit a touch heavy. Dropped another one just for the heck of it & hit it to about 6 ft with no forward roll at all. I'm not as long as bama but I think I hit it pretty good.

Here's the 202 yd par 3

good looking for golf hole

finding that zoysia doesn't get as much roll as Bermuda. With some of the grass grown to @ 4 feet in between some holes that were somewhat bailout areas prior and the new grass, 6700 is playing really long right now.
all 18 will be ready to play next week.

It's finally looking like the website. For awhile, people were coming out and getting pissed because the site was a misrepresentation of what they were getting when visiting. The tall stuff in the picture should only be an issue on a few holes, but that means one bad tee shot and you are hitting 3 off the tee.

It makes me cry seeing pics like that. Grass just grows better and looks more lush up there. I guess that's my trade off for being able to play year round down here.

We've had courses go in the other direction with the "love" grass. People stopped playing because there was zero room off the tee so they've cleared a lot if it out.

I'm not promoting Callaway or anything but the supersoft might give you more carry as it has less spin. Another low compression ball is the duo or gamer soft.

their video tour is pretty nice. Of course they do it up and everything looks better on the internet. But can you imagine coming in town for business, paying $80 and you expect to play a course that looks like that, and instead you are playing on mud which used to be bermuda. It was that bad.
Tough course with elevated greens but like most courses, if you can drive or hit 3 wood straight, you can play well. If you are losing drives and lose 3-4, you are already @ +10 and it could only be hole 4 or 5.

I hit the Supersoft just for fun the other day. Loved it around the green. Hated it off the tee.

I play Bridgestone E6. I had my hole in one/alby with it and also shot my low career round of 70 (which I will never get within 5 strokes again) with it. I tried others but have a confidence with it for some reason. Plus, I dig the arrow on it to use for putts and my tee shot. It makes me feel like he's telling me where he's going.

Yea the E6 is a good ball. It's a pretty low compression & a 3 piece so it's pretty balanced.

I don't know anything about anything you guys are talking about when it comes to sticks, shafts, compression, loading, 3 piece, 2 piece, etc.
I would get ocd about that kind of stuff.

I just experiment & research to find the best ball that's the best bang for the buck. I refuse to pay $48 for prov1. A lower compression ball is easier to compress, less spin, straighter shots. It's primarily for moderate to lower swing speeds. For me it hurts my short irons because they just fly forever. Yesterday I played a Wilson FG tour x. It was much better distance control wise & had a lot of spin.

for club choice, I pick up a few and swing them. Then I get one I like and ask the guy to get me 2 similar choices. Usually make my club decision on one trip and quickly if I'm getting clubs, wedge, hybrid or whatever. The Adams hybrid I got for $69 is my best stick right now. Bridgestones' are $26. We have several high handicappers playing pro V's. They shoot 90-95 every round and continue to buy the most expensive ball.

I can't hit a hybrid they just hook too much for me. Have a few but finally just gave up & got a 5 wood. I'm about the same way on irons & driver. I hit a lot of solid shots but still like something fairly forgiving but not something with huge offset or too bulky. I have the original razr fit driver that I put an upgraded shaft in & I can't find anything I hit better.

I've got time for one round in Destin this week. I'll drive 45 minutes maximum in any direction. It'll be an afternoon round, after 12 between $50-75. I wanted to play The Links at Sandestin but a buddy told me they punched their greens 3 weeks ago and still want 75.00 to play.

Where am I going to play?
