The Golf Thread

I played it once. The greens were lightning fast the day I played, and the fairways were firm and fast. It's a nice course, and the greens made it difficult for me. I hit 15 greens in regulation and 3 putted 9 times. Shot 84 with 45 putts, 9 three putts, 9 two putts.

I played it as The Ridges. Fun course, fairly open

Well at least it is fairly open so I have a good chance of getting it to the green lol. Holston Hills' greens are super fast with a lot of undulation. Wind River can be a tough place to putt too. I'll try to keep my approach shots below the hole.

Creeker and Yankee have just experienced the longest walk in golf..................from the practice tee to the 1st tee.

Indeed. Tell you what though. The extra work on the short game is what has really paid off. Couple years ago if I was hitting drives like I was today I wouldn't break 105 because I couldn't do anything from 100 yards and in either. Putting was okay but that was it. Now I'm finding greens from that distance and around the green has improved tons.

I can hit the ball and I can get it on the green. Putting is a whole nother animal for me. I'll get on the green in regulation and walk away with a bogey...

My biggest issue is consistency. I'll hit a straight drive, nice approach shot, then three putt. Or I'll get near the green and skull it across or chunk it. Or I'll put one in the woods off the tee and be hitting 3. I shoot mid 80s-low 90s. I would like to get to a single handicap. It's definitely a work in progress, but I am getting there. Just have to put it all together now.

I'm right there with you

78 at Centennial, Oak Ridge

Look at you. Great round man.

We shot -15 under at Blackthorn Club in the 4-ball tournament. I did not help much at all, but was a good day for golf. Course was great, nothing special though. Pretty bland layout in my opinion, not a lot of scenic views or anything. However, a lot of beautiful homes throughout the course. The fairways were also wide open, but the greens were tough. Speed was crucial and breaks were deceptive. Leaders were at -18 under, but was still a couple groups out when I left. Wind made it difficult at times.

I'm down here in East Tennessee on Vacation, usually play in Southwest VA. Centennial is a nice course. Never heard of blackthorn.

Play there later today. Hope I get within 20 strokes of that score

I'm actually from Oliver Springs, but currently live in Southwest VA. I like Centennial when I'm back visiting. And Willow Creek. Shot the round of my life at Willow Creek. Avid golfer, played since I was 5. Played AJGA, high school, college, attended golf academy of America. Would love to hit some courses in East Tennessee with some of you. Or anywhere you live that I may be visiting!

Headed to Fairfield Glade next weekend. We'll playing Stonehenge and one other. The two Heatherhurst courses look nice, but they are closed for a women's tournament. Anyone with intel on Dorchester or Druid Hills?

Stonehenge is definitely my favorite. Dorchester and Druid Hills are both fine, but there's nothing all that outstanding to remember. It's a few minutes outside Fairfield, but I really like Bear Trace also.

Go eat at the Brass Lantern.
