The Golf Thread

Who cares. Some people like Joe Buck were acting like it’s the end of the world.

Yeah they were really blowing it up. He did it, took the penalty and played on. For the amount of times golf rules can screw a player I’m not gonna get that worked up about a rule working to Phil’s advantage regardless if he meant for it too or not.

On the Golf Channel, Brandel Chamblee, Frank Nobilo, and David Duval trashed Phil for "disrespecting the game." I don't consider today to be representative of what the game should be.

The USGA has disrespected the game for years with the course setups many times. All they forgot to add was the windmill, and a clown's face where you putt through its mouth to get to the hole. A golf course designed 100 years ago shouldn't have greens rolling at 13 or 14 on the Stimpmeter in the wind. It was a joke.

It's exactly the BS I was talking about earlier. Nobody with a clue should setup a golf course like that, yet they do it all the time. I think everybody understands squeezing the fairways and growing the rough, but what they do to the green complexes is criminal at times.

But still, Phil just can't do that.

He shouldn't have, but he apparently couldn't take it any more. I can understand the thinking behind it.

If it takes someone who's as respected as Phil to do somethings like that to open the USGAs eyes then it's a good thing it happened

I think what Phil did was a protest of the ridiculousness of how the USGA set up those greens, which I agree with.

Did you see those pin placements? There were puts that were literally right on line the whole way but then rolled off 2 or 3 feet because of some funky slope a foot away from the hole. Ridiculous.

Of course, the greens should be fast, but not as fast as a marble counter top like they were today. Inexcusable.

The announcers railing on Phil are the reason why golf is viewed as a backwards, elitist sport for rich males. Who gives a flying **** about what Phil did? He was fed up with the course's condition, and I don't blame him one bit. Oh, he must have bruised your fragile ego or "disrespected the game" somehow. Stupid snowflakes.

I don't care what the USGA (or any VN poster) says, but it's not fun to watch the best golfers on the planet hit good approach shots that roll 30 yards off the green and good putts that are impossible to stop within 5 paces of the hole.

You can make a course hard and still fair. Today was just stupid.

I understand exactly what was going on.... but come on.

He was having a bad day and temporarily lost it. I'm not sure how pointing that the obvious is in any sort of commentary on the game being elitist. It doesn't really bother me. I just hope a bunch of people dont start doing it.

Agreed. To see these type of players at 14, 15 over is ridiculous
