disagree. the guy that can mke divots straight with speed can figure out the square clubface. I get the guy that can make his divots go where he's pointed, I can get him doing much with the ball by simply manipulating setup and loosening his arms.

If you can deliver a square club face, you can learn to work the ball.

I'll be danged if it wasn't the best day of the year for golf here in Memphis. At 7:40 high winds and a rain storm blew through and the radar in the clubhouse covered Arkansas in storms. We figured it was coming our way so we called it a day and came home.

Well, as figures, the rain never crossed the Mississippi River and it was overcast in the high 70's all morning.

Yeah, it was enough for me to put off cutting the yard, but not enough to keep me from the driving range lol

Well, i had my best day ever at the driving range today

About 40 shanked drives that almost hit the people at the grass tees at Putt Putt (folks in memphis know what I am talking about) i took a step back and put the club down, as I didn't want to throw it.

Then I did something people have told me to do, I slowed my swing down.

Holy moly. It was 10x easier to keep the club head square, make solid contact and hit it about 200 yards. Now I am a bigger dude, and I knows 200 yards isn't far, but darn it I hit it farther then the chick next to me.

It was smooth and it felt good. It goes a little right still, but I think it would still be in the fairway.

So I guess speeding up the swing will give you greater distance? This makes sense, but who knows.

No, actually it is most often the opposite. They don't call Ernie Els the Big Easy beacuse he swings hard and fast.

Swinging faster more than likely will break down an area of your swing that will cause a poor shot.

Build your swing around a smooth, fluid motion and the distance will take care of itself.

careful. His smooth looking motion might make it look slow, but he has big clubhead speed.

I think modern golf teaching is around full turns, loads of speed, then learning to harness the speed.

Speed kills from the top, but it's worth a fortune at the bottom.

Stand on a tee at a PGA tour event and it's amazing how effotless their swing is. Mechinics trump muscle every day.

And just to destroy your claim....

As good as it gets - David Duval has a good swing | Golf Digest | Find Articles at BNET

Have fun being the best golfer in a 50 mile radius.

YOu didn't destroy anyone's claim. You just showed your stupidity. Notice it said oddity.

Where is Duval now??????????

Just stating facts, IE. You can argue. Two players???????????????????????

Go to the range at a tour stop and watch each player.

what an idiot. You made my argument for me.

And to post something about Duval:eek:k:

Many player's left arm break down a bit at the top, it is through the hitting area where the left arm needs to be straight

And your handicap is???????????

Another thing IE, Jack Nicklaus let his right elbow "fly" and didn't keep it tucked as you are supposed to. I guess it makes it right because 1 player did it. LOL

go out to the range today...make sure your club is square at impact, but lift your head up right before impact.

Let me know how many solid shots you hit, pard

LOL

Based on what you have posted, you are the last man who should be giving swing advice

Again, your handicap is???????

So true, but lets not forget about these critical fundamentals either:

Keep your eye on the ball through impact
Keep your head still through impact

These things are key for SOLID contact

YOu can have great posture
your swing plane can be perfect with square face;however, if you don't keep your head down you are going to hit bad shots..plain and simple

If it makes you feel better to call other people stupid and idiot then so be it. But it makes your posts very hard to take seriously.

You claimed that if you don't keep your head down you will hit bad shots. That is just like telling someone to keep their left arm straight. It shouldn't be taken literally.

I posted Duval and Sorenstam as examples of top players that don't keep their heads down. To which you claimed, I was incorrect, and that those two players did keep their heads down. You were wrong. As for asking where Duval is now - if you don't know his whole story, then you should read up on him.

If you can't admit you are wrong then live in your own little 50 mile radius world. As for my handicap - I'd say it and your age are very close.

I just call it like I see it as far as this subject goes. You aren't more mature because you are giving bad advice.

Keeping your head down and eye on the ball are completely different fundamentals than keeping your left are straight.

Why would I admit I am wrong when I am 100% right?
As I said, take your eye off of the ball and see how solid you hit it.....again, it won't matter how square your clubface is if you're not hitting the ball on it. LOL

And yes, results and records mean everything in golf as far as knowledge of the game goes. YOu are the one who needs to admit you are wrong...you are making yourself look silly....taking two players out of thousand and trying to make a point with them. And pard, before you keep popping off, I know exactly what has happened with Duval. I am pretty sure there isn't much about the game I haven't forgotten more than you will ever know.

And how many US Amatuers (national) have you played in? Nevermind, I know the answer. Here is one that might be a little easier for you to answer...Have you ever won your club championship? If not, then STFU. As I said, records and results are EVERYTHING in golf. Unless you have perfomed at a reallly high level, you will continue to make yourself look stupid.

Nice one on the handicap. If your handicap is anywhere close to my age, you really are the biggest idiot on this board

This post tells me everything I need to know about you.

Just to give everyone a laugh, what is your location that you are such a golf god?

The biggest laugh is the thought I would ever need the affirmation of a weekend hack with no clue

So in other words we are supposed to believe you are some golf great in a ficticious land. Right.

And it doesn't change the fact that you said Sorenstam and Duval keep their heads down. That is wrong.

You providing some blanket advice to a single person on a message board needs to be tempered with the reality that swings are unique and there is no one piece of advice for everyone to apply.

i did too, but not coming in the same post complaining about somebody calling you an idiot.

But I am serious. I haven't kept my handicap since I started a family. My kids limit my play to 10-20 times per year and I don't play in any tournaments that require a certified handicap.

I'm probably in the 12-14 range right now. Nothing more than a weekend hack that likes to have some brews and swat some balls.

Okay, on that particular item, maybe so. I do believe both keep their eye on the ball AT impact and then their heads release sooner than anyone who has ever been a champion.

And pard, I know golf swings are unique. Look at Palmer, Floyd, etc......but the one fundamental MOST all the great players have is they stay down and through their shots....this being accomplished by keeping their eye on the ball through impact. It is a piece of advice that will benefit ANYONE playing the game. Keeping your eye on the ball, your head down AREN'T swing tips.

Pard, Big Papa and I are meeting some weekend in the fall for a round and you are welcome to join us.

I admit - the way you have been bragging on your game does intrigue me.

If your actual game matches your posting and you don't live a town with only a couple hundred people, chances are I know you.

I didn't know I was bragging. Lots of guys in this state/region have played in a US Amatuer. The number of great players is actually astonishing. I was trying to make the point that I know a little about the game.

the town I live in has approx 10,000 people. A 50 mile radius will consist of everyone in a number of towns around me. All joking aside, I can think of two players in my 50 mile radius that can beat me regularly, but then again both of those guys are two of the 20 -25 best in the state.

Let me know where you and BPV are meeting, I'll play the front 9, then just drive cart, and have a few cold ones
